RAYBOY01 (1622), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 17, 2008 Very satisfying version of the style...big roasty flavors and yet light mouthfeel combine to create the perfect session beer...blending intensely roasted flavors and light ABV and palate. Good!
Headbanger (958), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jul 7, 2008 Draft at brewery(4/25/08)-A black and crimson body with a small tan head and an aroma of coffee, chocolate, and burnt malt. It had a flavor of metallic, hops, bitterness, and a raspy finish on this medium bodied brew. I felt it was missing malt and not very well balanced. hopscotch (4433), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 11, 2008 Draft... DLD’08... Clear, almost black lager (crimson, when held up to light) with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki head. Chocolate and coffee aroma with a smidge of diacetyl. Medium-bodied and modestly carbonated with a creamy mouthfeel at first, then it dries out completely. Heavy tannic, metal bitterness... like sucking on a nickel. Finishes raspy, coarse, abrasive... so very dry. Over-attenuated, big time. Cornfield (4255), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA May 24, 2006 Called Schwartzbier on the brewpub’s menu, this a dark brown highlighted in ruby when held up to sunlight. The head is a thick, creamy tan that laces nicely, if briefly. The aroma is sweet and malty with a bit of nuttiness to it, both returning in the flavor with the slight addition of sweet butter. Very smooth and sessionable.
