Headbanger (958), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jul 8, 2008 Draft at Brewery(4/25/08)-A copperish amber body with a small ring for a head. It has an aroma of alcohol. Taste is of caramel, alcohol, and malt. This medium bodied brew was not bad but not my style.
hopscotch (4433), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 8, 2008 Draft... DLD’08... Clear, textbook amber ale with a creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The aroma is a whirl of malty chocolate and roasted nuts with an afterthought of peat smoke. Full-bodied and silky with reserved carbonation. Lots of caramel malt sweetness alongside alcohol and hop bitterness. Not really brewed to style, but tasty. Bittersweet, warming finish. AOF (280), Naperville, Illinois, USA Sep 1, 2007 Listed as their Vatted Malt Scottish Ale. Deep reddish brown color, almost no head. Nose is heavy malt with hints of smoky peat and a bit of general sweetness. Medium to full in body and somewhat bitter on the tongue. A pretty good beer, just not my favorite style. Cornfield (4255), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Sep 5, 2006 I’m an avowed hop-head, but Mike Rybinski at America’s Brewpub is doing his damnedest to convert me with the Scotch and Scottish ales (you tell me the difference) that he’s brewed up over the last few years. This puppy pours a light caramel body, red highlights, with a dense tan head that laces throughout the length of the drink... and you should take your time on this one. The aroma has light malts, toffee with a smattering of butterscotch, the warmth of alcohol, and a peaty smokiness, stronger than in Mike’s earlier versions. Welcomingly smooth in the mouth, the rich maltiness carries the day hand-in-hand with peat smoke and a light, somewhat nutty bitterness that lasts into the finish.
I’m sorry about being overly critical, but they should be bottling brews like this instead of Payton Pilsner Light.
