Commercial Description:
Note: Production moved to Sprecher. This is the old recipe, brewed at America's Brewpub.

Gold Medal Winning Brewmaster, Mike Rybinski of Walter Payton's Roundhouse has teamed up with Award Winning Homebrewer, Tom Seefurth to brew his creation, "Mama Mia Pizza Beer". Tom's beer is a Saison based light ale brewed with lots of real tomatoes, basil, oregano and garlic. Just for fun they have tossed a few wood grilled pizzas from America's Brewpub into the mix. The final product smells and tastes like pizza so, you can have your pizza and drink it too.

From a visit on June 17th. There appeared to be little or no hint remaining of the oregano, basil or garlic that others mention. To me this was a very good Saison, but had hints of nothing else in it.

1 pint bottle from Binny’s in Naperville. Pours an extremely carbonated head and body. The noise is really loud for a beer, almost soda pop like. Medium sized white head, very bubbly..leaves quickly and remains ehh somewhat lacy. Clear golden yellow with a little bit of cloudiness. Smells like a sweet pale malt with a hint of pizza to it...seriously. It has some italian spice mix (basil and oregano) as well as a garlicy, tomato sauce whiff. Malty and light body with a little carbonation at the end. And yes...it does taste like i just took a bite of pizza. It leaves a distinct aftertaste of spices, garlic, and tomato sauce. Overall, definitely a very clean flavor. I really only picked this one up because it said "pizza beer" on the label. And after sipping on this, it just kept getting more and more hilarious. The flavor was very unique and unlike anything I’ve ever had. A must sample.

Growler RBSG 07. Yellow pour with a short white head. Aroma of oregano, basil, tomato, light pepper and pale malt. Flavors of basil, light tomato, pale malt, yeast, and oregano. Light body, malty, spicy, pizza-ie. The most interesting brew of that night hands down, I only wish I had a slice of pepperoni at the time for garnish. Major points for originality.

On tap at the brewpub on 6/20/07: Pours a transparent yellow golden with a full-lacing frothy white head. Aroma of basil, oregano and garlic along with a touch of pale malt, really does smell like pizza. Body starts with some light caramel malty sweetness, a touch of bready yeast, tomato and Italian spice balance. Incredibly unique and strangely enjoyable.

RBSG 07 Minneapolis Grand Tasting: Hazy gold, no head or lacing. Nose of basil, a little oregano, light tomato, some malt and dough. The flavor is clean, light malts, lots of spices. Interesting beer that really tastes like pizza. Wish I could try a pint.

(Growler) Pours a lightly cloudy amber body with a small white head. Aroma of basil, oregano, olives, tomato, and sour dough. Somewhat offensive herbal flavor with garlic and tomato. Interesting...
