frankenkitty (1789), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Oct 1, 2007 Pours a deep mahogany/caramel body under a thin halo of white. Legs that coat & last long. Aroma of grape, cherry, mud, Juicy Fruit, yellow & green apple, caramel... quite nice, albiet a tad toned down. Thinner than I expcted, but still has the syrupy quality on the palate of a weak mead. Very mild carbonation activates my tongue. Peaty smokiness apparent on the first sip (after my snifter warms up, that is). Golden apple, green grape and pear add a summery fruitiness, with white wine further lightening its countenance from the smoky, earthen darkness which preceded. Very nice. My wife will have another... I have to drive.

pours deep brown with slight head. aroma is sweetish with a hint of smoke. some kind of fruitiness in the taste was off-putting, with some smoke in the finish. not a favorite of the day for me. holdenn (1148), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 9, 2007 Growler sampled at RAYBOY01’s Cajun Fais-Do-Do thanks to Cornfield. Pours a brown amber with a thin white head. Aroma of chocolate fruit, funky, and peaty. Light to medium body. Fruity flavors some chocolate notes, but meh overall. ElGaucho (1721), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Sep 10, 2007 Growler courtesy of Cornfield and sampled at Rayboy01’s unforgettable Fais Do Do last weekend. Sourish aroma. Alcoholic. Dark amber with a smallish head. Not very good. Makes me a little ill. Something off. xnoxhatex (788), Chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 10, 2007 I believe this was the scotch ale from Walter Payton’s brewpub at RAYBOY01’s Cajun Fais-Do-Do. Growler. Brown with little beige head. Little smoke, lots of sweet malt, vanilla. Fruit, prune flavor, caramel, surprising mango. Thin, little carb. Not my favorite scotch ale.
