MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 5, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Calculated cocoa carries the nose and flavor profile in this lean and approachable Porter, before minimal roasted malt bitterness ends the sip. Unpretentious and unmemorable, it will still satisfy the time of a pint.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the blackness.
-The body is well fed and never heavy.
-The big bubbles are soft and aid drinkability.
-The flavor spectrum is limited, and this ultimately causes my loss of interest halfway through the glass.
On tap at the brewpub. hophead75 (1700), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Feb 26, 2007 sampled at the brewpub. Dry chocolate in the aroma, as well as the taste. Taste also had some caramel, some roast, with a lightly bitter finish. Lubiere (3324), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Feb 18, 2006 Dark porter with a thin off white head. Light chocolate malt in aroma. In mouth, sweet chocolate malt balls with some roasted nuts come out. Watery bodied. Boring overall. On tap Feb.10, 2006. Hopistotle420 (1177), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA Mar 20, 2005 Dark brown, with faint ruby hue. Pale tan head. Cocoa nose. Roasted malts, burnt toast, dark chocolate, light to medium body, slightly watery, with a cocoa and bitter hop finish. Not too smooth or great, but a nice treat nonetheless.
