alandudeman (25), Massachusetts, USA Nov 19, 2007 33 oz growler, courtesy of Amherst Brewery..........Look: like apple cider, thick and cloudy but not opaque, minimal tan head.....
Smell: vaporized weed, grassy hops, biscuits, cider.....
Taste: hops, malts, grass, caramel, grapefruit. bitter aftertaste that lasts a few seconds.....
This ones pretty good but is lacking in a few areas. First off, for an Imperial IPA, the flavor should have been some what stronger. While pleasant, it just didn’t hold up as long as say, the 90minute. Second, it just wasn’t bitter enough. And third, it was rather watery. All in all though, this one is good and something I’d get again.
MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 5, 2007 My Bottom Line:
Maple syrup caramelization splashes over the grapefruit and pine needles in this tasty though muddled American IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of murky brownish amber.
-The sweetness is somewhat excessive for my tastes in IPA.
-Dusty yeast seems to roam within.
-Underneath the hops is an ordinary, rather frail ale, but the end result doesn’t focus on this at all.
-Thin biscuity maltiness is found within.
-Some fruitiness is not clearly defined.
On tap at the brewpub.
