drjay44 (44), USA Jan 15, 2008 Rather too sweet for my palate, but it is consistant to the style and I rated that way. The immediately prior comment is right on for a more detailed discription. BeerandBlues2 (2370), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Oct 28, 2007 Draught. Pours clear brown with a spare, fizzy, light brown head,
diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (cookie, caramel,
chocolate, nutty), light hops (flowers), average yeast (leather) with
notes of brown sugar. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation,
and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity
and bitterness. Aubrey (2549), Denver, Colorado, USA Sep 8, 2005 In my post-climb state, the deep-burgundy color was mesmerizing. The thickish texture felt good on my gums. Big malts were followed by a slight, curious note of smoke and wood. Syrupy-sweet underbelly gave it some substance. Lesser notes of burnt toast and dark toffee. Flavorful beer with decent balance. eric728 (2), Tucson, Arizona, USA does not count Jul 25, 2005 Another cold, cold beer. Amicas has delicious cold beer. Balanced woody flavor lots of carbonation and lacy head. Should be saved for a cold winter night. Again, lots af alcohol.
Thank you Cathy!!! Labeir (4), Massachusetts, USA does not count Jul 14, 2005 I spoke with the brewer, and I guessed he was using lots of caramel malts, and chocolate malt. Wrong! He claims the method he uses is the one Scottish brewers use. Only 2 row and roasted barley here. The wort is caramelized in the kettle and is hopped to about 35 IBUs.
The head was thick and laced well, the flavors ranged from dried raisins to tobacco, but mostly caramel, toffee, and roasty-chocolate. The body was fat..very substantial, and I was thought it may have been too sweet, but then the alcohol kicked in and warmed my concern away. Very solid...I would love to try a batch aged for a few months longer. I had one 10 oz.
