Bottle @ home. Clear red-brown color with a dark red glare coming through, average to medium sized off-white head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma is malts, sweetish grains, dark fruits. Taste malts, sweetish grains, dark fruits, raisins. Average body and carbonation. Quite nice actually.

Bottle from a REWE supermarket in Nuremberg. Deep copper in colour, with a decent, off-white head. A malty brew, with a hint of roast, some caramel, red fruits and moderately bitter finish. Enjoyable.

It’s dark amber with a creamy head. The aroma has notes of butter, roasted malt, caramel and fruit. The flavor has a light sweetness and notes of butter just before it’s rancid, caramel, roasted malt, fruit and the finish is roasted and slightly dry. The rancid butter is not meant to be, I’m sure - but it’s there..

Bottle, best by 4/13/13, consumed in December 2012: Beaming coppery gold. Creamy ivory head. Pleasant nose of hazelnut coffee, licorice root, dark toffee, breadcrust, and spruce-tip hops. Soft and compact carbonation. Initially dryly malty, with notes of hazelnut and breadcrust accompanying an earthy, wood-root spiciness. Splash of unsweetened chocolate coincides with a dusting of cocoa along with a wavering toffee richness and subsequent wave of anise-like woodiness. Malt is clean and silky, though isn’t exactly well-textured as there is a perceptible shortage of depth-lending scratchiness which leaves a void in terms of contrast. Somewhat papery, as well, though the juicy succulence that pervades, more than compensates. Finishes moist, with a soggy bread accent, and heavy on the licorice and earthy hops, with underlying spice. A well-crafted, malt-centric Franconian lager.
