   AROMA 9/10   APPEARANCE 5/5   TASTE 9/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 18/20
Grima (2035) - Saarburg, Rhineland-Palatinate, GERMANY - DEC 12, 2010
500ml bottle. Into the glass pours a dark brown beer with a fine, long-lasting crown. The smell is very sweet and nutty caramelly. The beer starts fabulous caramel-malty, very soft and pleasantly sweet. The aftertaste is slightly bitter, but the caramel dominates clearly! The further course is a little spicy, the sweet aroma is minimal pushed through a bitter-bitter tone to the side, but still felt good. It still adds a slight coffee flavor. Truly one of the best dark beers I rated the last few months!

3fourths (7797) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 18, 2012
fresh bottle. clear brilliant chestnut brown body with a small foamy off-white head. straight shot showcase of Munich malt in the nose with lovely scents of toasted nut oils, toasted cereal, light toffee, crunchy bunt cake, etc. rich, tangy, deep nose from the first sniff. soft minerals and baked cookie malt. frothy, full carbonation with a moderately chewy medium-heavy texture. medium sweetness drying across the back and warming late, which is especially pleasant with the toasty, crunchy, lively, clean and deep Munich malt flavor.

Bottle looks simple, but good, the beer in the glass dark brown, small head. Starts malty and strong, quite dry without being too much, fruity like plums. Finish a bit earthy but also well balanced. Quite drinkable. Good beer!

Bottle, best by 4/13/13, consumed in December 2012: Beaming coppery gold. Creamy ivory head. Pleasant nose of hazelnut coffee, licorice root, dark toffee, breadcrust, and spruce-tip hops. Soft and compact carbonation. Initially dryly malty, with notes of hazelnut and breadcrust accompanying an earthy, wood-root spiciness. Splash of unsweetened chocolate coincides with a dusting of cocoa along with a wavering toffee richness and subsequent wave of anise-like woodiness. Malt is clean and silky, though isn’t exactly well-textured as there is a perceptible shortage of depth-lending scratchiness which leaves a void in terms of contrast. Somewhat papery, as well, though the juicy succulence that pervades, more than compensates. Finishes moist, with a soggy bread accent, and heavy on the licorice and earthy hops, with underlying spice. A well-crafted, malt-centric Franconian lager.

Test vom 24.5.2010, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,12,13,11,12,12 - 12,00

Bottle. Starts of slightly sweet, with some subtle nutty caramel notes, bready malt. Finishes off dry with some nice grassy hops, and a mild bitterness. Very drinkable.
