2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
This seems to be as common as tap water in Western Europe, though it is a bit better. It is standard pale lager faire with a small white head, a strong, skunky flavor, prevalent grainy malts, and weak, light hops.

Watching this Nova program on string theories and quantum physics and parallel universes and shit got me thinking. Everytime I drink a shitty beer, it’s possible some bloke in a parallel universe is choking down some badass belgian ale.

50cl can. Nice golden color with a servicable head. Non-ofensive flavor. Goes down without a fuss.

UPDATED: AUG 8, 2005 (Bottle 30 cl) Dutch version by Heineken. Surprisingly fully golden with a delicious, creamy head. Very carbonated. Decent, full body with a good, hoppy finish. Good, solid quality lager without much personality. 121003
(Bottle 50 cl) Greek version. Pilsener golden with a fairly decent head. Malty sweetness balanced by a touch of hops and a lot of carbonation. Decent quencher guaranteed not to offend anyone. 5/3/5/2/10=2.4 050999

Very mild almost sweet taste, extremely simple but serviceable quencher. Slightly artificial somehow. Inoffensive. I merely shrug. Little hops in nose, definitely for the very casual beer drinker who might just as easily opt for Perrier.

It does not taste bad, but that is about the only quality Amstel has. A tasteless lager with no character, produced to please as many people as possible. Probably one of the weakest lagers around.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
One of the most common lager beers (along with Heineken) here in Greece. I’m not sure if it’s imported here or if they have a factory here as well. It tastes slightly inferior to the heinekenn that you can have here.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pale golden beer with a dense head that only lasts for a couple of minutes, fading to a small layer of bubbles. Fairly weak malty aroma with some slight noble hop aromas. Very easy drinking, just an ordinary lager really. Average malt flavour with a dry, simple finish. Weak bitterness. A bit plain, but definetly nothing wrong with it.
