2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 NCsparkster (12) - High Point, USA - JUL 29, 2007
I was at a party when I had this and never got the chance to pour it into a proper glass, so I’ll just go with the flow and give it a 2 or a 3 for appearance. I suppose I could also just rate it by the appearance of the bottle, which was rather uninteresting, and that would be a 2 or 3, too. It smelled of faint malt, hops, and veggies and tasted the same. Honestly, I couldn’t find anything in the taste I didn’t like, other than the fact that there wasn’t much of it. That’s always the issue, is it not? You have two different beer philosophies represented on ratebeer: the brewing-as-art-form/"I don’t care about calories--I want taste" camp and the toss-’em-back-with-your-buddies/"I want to party without the beer gut" camp. I, and most of the people on here, I think, belong to the former, but that doesn’t invalidate the latter. If I were a light beer drinker who liked to party a lot, I would really appreciate Amstel Light’s low calorie count and decent taste for a light beer. Still, that’s not how I approach beer, and I’m going to throw it in there with all the other styles for this. That doesn’t mean it’s not good for what it is; that just means, yes, ratebeer is for "f****ing beer snobs," and, yes, people actually like those big, bitter beers and such. It is just as wrong to berate someone for liking big beers as it is to berate someone for liking BMC. Both sides attack each other in arrogance and ignorance, and it needs to stop. I would also point out that there is a "Style Pctl" at the top that compares a beer to others in its category, so you could always forget the actual rating and just go by that, assuming people haven’t totally thrown the scores by giving straight "1"s or straight "5"s.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear pale yellow with minimal head. Aroma of corn and grass. Taste is about the same. Light bodied with a thin texture. Fizzy carbonation and not much of a finish. Overall, I’ve had worse, but I can’t say I’m a fan of this one.
1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 kdm1984 (134) - Missouri, USA - MAY 12, 2012
Less flavor than even most other macro pale lagers. Not rude, but barely a step above the taste-lacking Michelob Ultra.

Flavour is light moderate sweet and light light bitter with a average duration, thin, malty. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is soft. [20120401]
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 umich03jm (169) - Michigan, USA - APR 29, 2012
An above average light pale lager. More flavor than you get from mostly all mass produced light beers. I like to drink this or miller light if the bar doesn’t carry any craft beers.

weak head, nice amber color, sweet malt aroma. It has a pleasant refreshing feel. Better than any light american beer

Very disappointed at this beer. It was like drinking bitter fizzy water. No aroma or taste. Rating is probably generous.
