BARREL AGED DOUBLE TEMPEST is made with double the malt and double the hops that it takes to make Tempest Imperial Stout. Aged in Four Roses bourbon barrels for 9 months, and hopped with generous amounts of Warrior hops, BARREL AGED DOUBLE TEMPEST is full of dense chocolate and deep malt flavours with a rich, long candied bourbon and oak finish. At 15% ABV and 115 IBU, this strong beer ages well for up to 3 years.

2014-08-08. Oily looking black body coats the glass, headless. 3+ Aroma is boozy, lots of sweet vanilla bourbon and dark malt base. 7++ Flavour is rich, fairly alcoholic, sweet vanilla bourbon character. It finishes with a good amount of bitterness, moderate roast character. 7++ Smooth medium to full bodied palate, soft to low carbonation. 3++ Delightfully rich but the bourbon is prominent and sits heavily on the palate in such a way that a small portion goes a long way. Bottle from the brewery cellared several months

[Bottle (650ml) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, jercraigs & mabel -- c/o j&m] Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with an average size frothy tan head. Nice aroma of roasted malt, vanilla, wood, chocolate, dark fruit and leafy hops. Flavour is sweet, roasty and chocolaty along with wood, alcohol and vanilla -- itís quite sweet. Medium bodied, syrupy mouthfeel. Too sweet and boozy to drink the whole bottle but a small glass of it is lovely.

650mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours jet black with a small tan head. Aroma is very dense, with loads of roasted malt, followed by bourbon barrels, cocoa and maybe some hop bitterness. Flavour is extremely robust, with loads of chocolate, followed bourbon barrels, and harsh hops. Very thick, sludgy palate with a chocolatey, bourbony palate. Very good stuff with a boozy finish, though a slow sipper.

Bottle. Brewed on Feb 14/13 - bottled on Nov 3/13 - enjoyed on Jul 27/14. Deep ruby-brown body that pours with not a lot of carbonation but a surprisingly substantial creamy dark tan head. Great aroma with a lot going on - dark malt, vanilla, licorice, charred wood, cooked prune, bit of boozy warmth. Smooth body with a nice full and oily feel. Flavour has most of what the aroma promises, with vanilla and wood being prominent, along with a hint of roasted coconut, and warm bourbon in the finish. Very nice stuff that I think benefited greatly from a few months in the bottle to come together.

Bottle (22 oz). From Sammy, thanks! Almost black with a small beige head and little lacing. Aroma is boozy with bourbon, vanilla, dark chocolate and "green" hops. Taste is sweet but not overwhelming with quite a boozy presence, dark chocolate, vanilla, wood, roasted malt along a bitter and warming finish. Full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Thick and sirupy mouthfeel. Hot. Itís not bad, but itís too boozy (not a great balance) and it has been completely outclassed by some world class RIS that we had prior to this one. I might revisit, but I donít get the very high ratings on this one.

Bottle at tasting. Deep brown-black pour with small head. Aroma is fruity and boozy aroma, candi sugar, plums, dark chocolate, light roasty notes. Taste is sweet, heavy, cloying with a bitter roasty finish. Palate is thick, slightly syrupy with low carbonation. Not bad, but itís too boozy imo.

Rich dark brown. Sweet and a little bit meaty, light raisins, followed by barrel, alcohol and a dash of vanilla.

Jet black pour. Small brown head that dissipates, not shocking as beer is not heavily carbonated. Lacing lasts well on glass. Big beer- booze is covered well by flavours of oak, chocolate, sweetness. Not overpoweringly sweet, well balanced. vanilla and wood and oak

650 ml bottle courtesy of Sammy. Thanks. Pours a nearly opaque blackish with amber highlights around the edges when held to a light. Minimal head that soon recedes to a fine ring around the glass. The aroma is big and bold with chocolate liqueur, whiskey, dark fruits, anise and something evil. The taste pretty much mirrors the aroma, lots of anise in the forefront with whiskey, dark fruits and some roasted bitter black walnuts filling in the sides and back. The palate is full and viscous with soft carbonation. Finishes long with lingering anise and a bit of acidity. Overall: Monster RIS, Loved it.
