4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 midlifecrisis (1) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 7, 2010 does not count
Boys, try the unfiltered, bottled version just released at the brewery, it is much better than your ratings below would indicate. it has a tangy, darker malt base with insistent, citrus rind hops coming through in the finish. a worthy IPA in an underserved market.

Oh, but this is a pleasant surprise. While Amsterdam was the first brewpub that I ever visited (way back when...), their bottled beers have never really impressed me all that much.
Boneshaker however is absolutely great. A glowing orange beer with moderate carbonation, it gives off a lovely hoppy aroma with the bitterness counteracted by a hint of sweetness. It packs a "mild wallop" on first sip. A contradiction in terms perhaps, but the strong hoppy bitterness never overwhelms. It is beautifully balanced and doesn’t leave a bitter tang on the tongue.500ml bottle sample purchased at the Amsterdam store.
Ontarians have been blessed recently by a number of fine Pale Ales, and this one moves to the head of the list.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2012 500ml bottle sample purchased at the Amsterdam store. Pours a orange/ yellow colour, with a small white head, small amount of lacing. Aroma was hopy and sweet, a bit pine like. Taste was very much the same as aroma, a little bitter. I’m glad I can get local brews that taste like this, too bad it’s seasonal (at least I think it is?).
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 garthicus (2087) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 29, 2011
Appearance: hazy golden orange, proud snow white head. Aroma: bitter pine, leafy, good malty backbone yet still lots of hops shining through. Flavour: Deliciously hoppy, a lovely ’zing’ on the tongue, lots of malt, with a prominent tangy hop Flavour to boot. A delicious offering and in my opinion it’s Amsterdams best regularly available beer along with being one of the best IPA’s in Ontario.

On tap at the town crier in toronto.
Hazy orange pour, small beige head. Big thik juicy aoma of citruy hops, and some nice bready malts. Flavor is not too intense, the bitterness is a little muted. Really nice fruity finish with a medium bitterness, i was quite impressed.

I tried this beer on March 24, 2011 in tap at "The Town Crier" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a hazy reddish-brown in the glass with a thin ecru coloured cap. The aroma was citrusy hops, pine, and malt. The mouthfeel was medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour was grapefruity hops, and caramel. Very enjoyable beer.

On tap at Town Crier in Toronto. Cloudy amber/orange pour. Juicy aroma or grapefruit and pine. Fairly fizzy, light body. Caramel breadiness gives way to the hops - nice bitter grassy pine and citrus. Lingering finish. A bit acidic. Overall a tasty IPA. Packs a nice punch.

UPDATED: DEC 30, 2011 Rerating as I drink this all the time and love it. This beer has changed quite a bit since my original rating and merits a new score. Simply one of the best IPAs in Ontario.
Original rating: 6.3.6.3.11: 2.9
Draught at C’Est What Spring Festival, 2010. Pours a hazy amber with a spare frothy white head. Aroma is buttery and lightly hoppy along with some fruity notes. Flavour of grain, light citrus hops and an average bitter finish. Average bodied. It’s all very "meh".
