Bottle. Dark brown with a one inch coffee coloured head. Milky chocolate in the aroma, brown bread, grassy hops. Medium bodied, mildy carbonated. Roasty malt flavour with a slight citric sweetness, coffee, candy licorice then a hint of bitterness. Lightly bitter finish.

500ml Bottle: Got in trade from Sammy; THANKS Sammy! Aroma of malt, light hops, slight citrus, slight licorice, and light medicine, and minerals. Poured dark brown in color with a small, tan/brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is malt, roasting, cocoa, hops, light pine, burning, and slight alcohol. Medium body. Average, lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, roast, cocoa, light hop finish is lightly dry. 7.8%ABV is slightly noticeable.

Cask - Volo Cask Days 2010, Day 1 (session 2). 67 IBUs (two tickets!!?????). Deep murky brown with an average frothy tan head. Smells nice - nutty, oily, definitely bitter but sweet an malty. Taste - holy crap this is massively, and generically bitter - like paint, wildflowers and harsh hop oil (barely a 6). Oily, harsh on the palate, plus the alcohol weighs in aggressively too - no thank you. Two tickets? For THIS????

500 ml bottle. Deep brown pour with a thick tan head. The aroma is quite herbal and peppery. A fairly pronounced tobaccoish aroma. There is a fairly herbal hoppiness. A lot of cocoa nib flavour as well. The hoppiness is quite pronounced as well. I’m not sure exactly what they were going for here, but it drinks like an amped up hoppy brown ale. A little bit herbaceous but as it warms up it really comes together for me. I quite like this.

Pour deep brown decent head minimal lacing. Aroma brown sugar, spice, cinnamon, malt, hops. Taste all over the road smokey, watery, chocolate, roasty malt, coffee, decently hopped. MF creamy medium body mild carb. Meh all over the road tasty drink kind none the less.

500ml bottle from the brewery. kinda all over the place. well hopped but seems kinda muddles together. shows signsof being a quality brew with a little refinement.

500 ml bottle, from the brewery. Pours deep, clear brown, almost tar black. Big, frothy caramel coloured head. leaves lots of lacing. Aroma and taste are primarily roasted malt, a little nutty, a little hint of smoke. Slightly grassy hop bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is well hidden! Really good example of American Brown Ale!

Well i don’t know about this. Pours a dark brown with tan head, looks correct. Has a needly, almost solventy alcohol aroma devoid of subtle malty generosity. The nicest I could say is ’herbal’ and possible hint of orange.Taste plays out the manifest dread of the aroma, but with more substance under it. Man this is dry. OK it’s pretty hoppy, and tastes like alcohol a lot more than toffee and nutty malt. Some sweetness struggles to balance the mildly distressing cacophony. Weird bottled offering from Amsterdam Brewery - not blek, but uncomfortable drinking. Hope to try more promising sample next time!

Cask at ’Volo Cask Days 2010’ . Pours dark brown, almost black with a spare diminishing frothy tan head. Aroma and flavour of roasted malt, light leafy hops, brown sugar, licorice and a hint of chocolate. Average bodied. Good, especially for Amsterdam.

[3433-20101029] Cask. Not aroma, some plastic pepper. Murky, black body with a quick bubbly brown head. Odd citrus coffee roast flavour has the peppercorn without the spice. Full body is boozy. Boozy and "all over the place".
