Formerly known as Amsterdam Nut Brown. The object of desire, Amsterdam Downtown Brown is crisp yet subtle in character. A classic British-style brown ale brewed with a blend of Canadian and European malts (including chocolate malt from Belgium), this traditional deep chestnut coloured ale exudes a bold and attractive taste. Brewed with English Ale yeast and balanced by four varieties of continental hops, our Downtown Brown delivers an uncommon smoothness and distinct drinkability.

Nice, easygoing brown. Pours dark mahogany with decent lacing and head. Some roast malt and nut in aroma. A little hops, though minimal. Finishes a touch bitter with some sense of musk.

Can. Clear brown pour with a reddish hue. Aroma is raisin, plum, dates, a little bready and slightly roasty. Taste is nicely balanced dark fruits with a light bitterness, dry finish. Not terribly rich, but good flavours and a great balance.

0.473 can. Clear, brown color and a small, off-white head. Aroma of wood, dark malts, smoke, a touch of nuts, and a bit of milk with tea. Taste is malty - coffee, nuts, and dark chocolate work in good balance. Light body, slick texture, and soft carbonation. Finish tastes of coffee candy, quite simple. Overall not a bad beer but by no standard is it particularly good.

Sampller after the marathon. Pours dark brown, reddish tint visible in the light. Decent head bubbles away for a while then descends into just a film. Rather dull aroma of caramel malts. Very lively taste though.

Gluepot (240) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 19, 2015
A very dark brown body with a lively tan head. The nose is relatively understated with touches of malt, nuts and a hint of milk chocolate. This is a nice fall beer. The body is a solid medium texture and the taste is subtle and well blended. Malt, slightly roasted nuts and a hint of cream and chocolate work well together. The continental hops are understated and hard to find and there is some spiciness in the finish.

Classic nut brown! Malty, light chocolate, light roast and a lot of nut flavor. Smooth4,complex yet light and easy to drink just like the style should be with a big expression of malt.

473ml can from LCBO. Clear dark cola body, medium beige head with poor retention. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, herbs, roasted nuts and chocolate. Taste of well roasted malt, burned caramel, hazelnuts and a touch of hops. Well done brown ale.

473ml can pours a dark brown with amber highlights and a finger of light beige head that leaves some spotted lacing on the glass. Aroma is chocolate with some light roasted grains. Taste is a roasted grain bitterness with a chocolate malty sweetness. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent brew for the style.
