3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 JohnBarleycorn (537) - Toronto, - APR 19, 2007
Deep amber/chestnut appearance. Pleasing raisin bread aroma and nice, refreshing palate. While the flavour would benefit from being bigger and richer, there’s a smooth malt feel and an aftertaste of watered-down chocolate milk that isn’t distasteful. Inoffensively drinkable.
2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 11/20 Metalchopz (1427) - Quebec, CANADA - AUG 24, 2011
Originally rated July 2006. This Canadian Vienna pours a rich amber colour that is clear, creates a small white head with not much retention, nor lacing. Average carbonation. The nose is buttery with some caramel and mild fruits. Watery mouthfeel with a slight syrup feel. The taste is not too sweet, but caramel malt is definitely present, but very light. Some hop shows up in the aftertaste. Mild nuts and light fruits (apples) are there too. Overall, an average brew.

Tap. Not great. Aroma is honeyish. Taste is sweet, with short length. Palate is oily, with a thin body. Amber, with a fizzy head.

341ml bottle from the brewery. Not much happening here. Standard pale lager flavour and aroma with a darker pour.

I tried this beer on November 26, 2008 at "Pizza Rustica" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent metallic red with no head at all. The aroma was a combination of grainy and sweet malt, with some floral hop tones weakly present. As stated by a couple of others, the mouthfeel was slightly watery, and not well carbonated. The flavour was rather bland with some grainy malt being the predoninant flavour.

[1496-20080615] Tap. Grains and toast aroma. Clear, orange brown body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Toasted grains continues in the flavour. Medium body. Average.

On draft in the guise of Madison Amber at the Madison Inn. Amber due to colour and not style it seems. A nice sent warm and nutty with something sweet. Taste is suprisingly bitter and nutty. There is a harsh bite there that is unbalancing.

Amber shade with a small but lasting head. Very sweet malty taste with a very slight roasted character. Bittering hops hit you towards the end, which are followed by what reminded me of a dirty sock-like taste. Overall, this was mediocre with a capital M.

A rerate of this beer after a year...fresh sample from the brewery.
Poured a nice copper-amber color...rocky head, some lacing, fairly well carbonated. The nose is very good on this one: Caramel and toasted malts, sweetness and light herbal tone ( this smells a tad sweet for a proper Vienna), Front side is lightly caramel sweet some toasty malts, then a light woody-herbal descernement from the hops.... then the body and finish leaves you dangling...wet but clean with light sweet bready after taste. This was a tease beer for me...it has so much potential...I want to see a well made local Vienna but Amsterdam got half way there then they wimped out with their typical watery mouth feel and light palate....lose the sweet caramel, put some more toasted malt substance and real noble hop presence in this beer and it could be great....as it is now it’s a mild drinkable pleasant malty beer with limited character but lots of potential..

Not too bad, but nothing great. Has a nice amber colour, a bit too sweet with nice bit of hops. Aftertaste is a bit unpleasant.
