Tap @Amsterdam. Pours clear grape juice, medium beige-pink head, creamy and slow to dissipate, nice lacing. Aroma is really raspberry dominated. Flavor is light plus sweet, very light bitterness, lots of raspberry, some skins and stems, a bit of wheat. Medium body, high carbonation.

4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Probably my highest rated fruit beer yet. Pours a beautiful ruby red with a pinkish head. Aroma is amazing, basically just real strawberries. Tastes of raspberries, wheat, and some hops as well. Has a medium highly carbonated body. It is tart and sour but has a very refreshing natural raspberry aftertaste. Would love more of this brew.

Sip purloined from Marina’s glass at Bar Hop when she’s not looking -- this beer cost the amount of a Toronto down payment at the lcbo -- reveals this to be more of an Italian soda than a beer. Oh crap she caught me. And she’s doing that lip smacking thing, where you know she can’t stand the beer she’s drinking, which means I’m going end up finishing this for her while she ventures deeper into the beer list at Bar Hop. Before she pushes the glass towards me she says "it tastes like carbonated liquid NyQuil" & you know if you’re a brewer that’s not the thing you wanna read on a site like this.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
650ml bottle, I think. Pink colour. The use of real fruit is apparent; very tart and no cloying sweetness or artificial flavours. However, not sure it is special enough to need a wax sealed cap and an $11 price tag. Six pack of 355ml bottles I could see buying it again as it was a very nice raspberry beer, but it was just nice.

Bottle, shared with Robbie. Lovely vibrant garnet red colour, bubbly pink head that fades to a ring. Fresh crushed raspberries and wheat, juicy and seedy without being too sweet. Very nice.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours ruby red, with light carbonation and light head that dissipates fairly rapidly.
Aromas are very much raspberry, and very pleasantly so. Maybe a bit of light biscuit in the background.
Mouthfeel is quite surprising in its creaminess.
Tastes are of raspberry, red grapes, and maybe a hint of wine.
This might be too sweet for most, and I couldn’t see myself drinking more than one, but splitting a 650ml bomber with my wife, is going down pretty easily. This is a nice seasonal from Amsterdam.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle - Malts and some oxidized berry notes. Dirty reddish amber with a small white head. Malty raspberry, light tartness and some light sweetness. The malty tones make this chocolate bar like.

I don’t really like fruit beers all that much, they can surely be enjoyable but seem more like a novelty. This Fruit Beer from Amsterdam is just a great beer, fruit-flavoured or otherwise. The aroma is not overly pungent of raspberry, just a nice hint mixed with wheat and honey. She is a beautiful crimson with a bubbly off-white head. Taste is definitely of raspberries but not to a sickening degree. Backed by some hardy caramel malts and citrus hops, it’s not even close to the cloyingly sweet raspberry/strawberry brews that hail from Belgium. A great summer beer but welcomed anytime as it tastes like a real beer with raspberries along for the ride.
