austinpowers (2827), New York, New York, USA May 6, 2008 Too thin and tart for me. Certainly the essence of framboise is here, but it doesn’t save this bummer of a fruit beer (a style I normally enjoy). No cloudiness.
radiomgb (1711), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jan 23, 2008 Rich cherry in colour, thin off-white coloured head, light lacing. The aroma is very sweet, lots of raspberries, quite jam like. The flavour is again very sweet, incredible amounts of raspberries, syrup, jam, some tartness. Sweet mouthfeel, medium/light body, medium carbonation. Finishes with a long a strong raspberry sweetness. This is very sweet throughout, becoming too much at times.
341ml bottle from the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario for $11.96 for the 4-pack.
Purchased on June 16, 2007 and opened on November 8, 2007.
No date.
paco (202), Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada Dec 15, 2007 Bottle received from Matt7215 in trade. I’m not sure if it is due to the shipping, but this beer was almost over-carbonated and had a very large head, which settled soon after pouring. Dark red/orange/brown with a pink head, I was expecting something more red in color. Aroma is not quite accurate for the taste. This beer is bitter and almost sour, yet the smell is sweet, honey and raspberry tones. The beer is quite tart and unfortunately I was expecting something sweeter. For the style, it is good, but not something I would suggest to drink on its own. Sweet food (like chocolate) would bring out the sweetness in this beer. probstk (627), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Nov 22, 2007 341 ml bottle in 4-pack from LCBO, served almost cold in a tulip glass.
App.: DARK PINK subdued by orange and brown tones, fairly decent pink-tan head, clear.
Aroma: Very honest raspberry aroma – to me it smells more like the raw fruit than a jam or a juice or an imitation; I dug for something else and failed. Raspberries. That’s it, that’s all.
Palate: Medium body, effervescence that fills the mouth and stings the tongue.
Flav.: Messy; starts as raspberry cough syrup, then gets a little more real; there are some faint malts hiding in the background and some nasty medicinal note; touches of organic acids; quite sweet but also sufficiently tart and bitter to avoid being cloying; a bit of alcohol shows at the end; messy.
No thanks. I just don’t think that fruit and beer belong together. At least not in this mess. JaPe (65), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 18, 2007 Pretty clear red color - weak head. Raspberry taste. It is sour a little sweet - it really works. My only issue is it tastes a little of yeast. The carbonation really tingles the mouth. Overall very good stuff.
