Commercial Description:
"Christmas Beer" in Dutch, our traditional European-style "Doppelbock" or strong lager, is rich and complex in character. With a sweet caramel palate and aroma, deep brandy colour and a dry, warming finish, it is typical of specialty festive beers brewed in the lowland countries of Europe around Christmas time.

On tap at Smokeless Joe. Deep brown in colour. Aroma was or caramel malt, some alcohol and was quite sweet. A caramel sweetness dominated the flavour up front, floral hops becoming noticable in back. Sticky mouthfeel, medium body, light carbonation. Finishes with a light bitterness. Meh.

Ruby bodied, very small off white head. Aroma is sweetly fruity and malty. Flavour is a bit odd, nutty, hints of leafy raspberry. Sweetly alcoholic with a sharp finish. Bit rough. Average, medium bodied palate. Disappointing. Thanks for the delivery Pootz/Sammy.

Deceptively smooth for an 8.2% beer. Expected it to be a little bolder considering it is a Dopplebock. Deep mahogony color, sweet malty flavor with a somewhat dry but not clean finish. Bought this at the Amsterdam brewery in Toronto; well worth the visit if you are in town. cheers!

A surprisingly good brew by this brewery and by far the highest I have rated anything by them as well as a top 10 Ontario brewed. Nice brown amber colour with suds and works. A yeasty nutty real chocolate and sweet spicey understated aroma. Some good yeast and it all works. Nothing soapy here. Medium mouthfeel. Thanks Pootz/Pootzboy.

Bottle fresh from the brewery. Pours a dark brandy color with a smallish tight off white head does not last long but laces the glass. Aromas understated..sweet, spicey. Mouth feel approachs oily, lovely mild blend of toffee malts and spice...moderate bodied but mild character for a dopple bock yet it delivers a substantial finish with the spice sweetness going to a tinny licorice taste. I like this bock...very drinkable A nice unique strong bock, mild in character but flavorful and with the alcohol well hidden.

This tap brew is very typical amsterdam actually. a slight fruityness under the heavy carbonation and a reddish tinge and soapy quality that absolutely doesn’t lend itself to being a dopple bock. Nice taste, but suffering a bit of an identity crisis.

On Tap, Smokeless Joe’s. Dark copper brown colour, almost no head. Slight fruitiness in weak aroma. Mouthfeel was very thick and syrupy. Taste had deep malt tones to it, with some spice, but rather bland. Nice warming alcohol finish, the best part of this beer. Not bad, but a little uninspiring.
