Excellent Beer. Prominent nut brown flavour, but not overwhelming. Good balance, texture and colour. One of my favourites.

474 ml can (5% alc.) pours a clear amber color with an off-white thin head and no lacing on the glass. Aroma is caramel malt and light roasted grains with hint of chocolate. Taste is a chocolate malty sweetness with just a hint of roasted grain bitterness. No presence of hops. Light bodied with a light carbonation. Nothing really special.

It’s nutty. It’s brown. It fits the descriptors. A very nice, smooth mouthfeel. Caramel sweetness, though with a metallic aftertaste.

500 ml can. Pours medium dark, minimal head. Uninteresting taste, slightly sweet with lasting aftertaste.

500 ml can - Poors a clear dark brown with red hues and a small thin light brown head. Aromas of green bananas, caramelised malts, caramel, hazelnuts and an earthy finish. Lack of balance in this brew... Fad and watered down a bit. Flavors are very metallic and can i say it also tastes like fish... very awkward flavors and mouthfeel...

pours a relatively medium dark brown with a nice beige head, some retention and lacing. nutty, fruity caramel, grassiness, fresh toasted and lightly roasted cereals. straightforward - slightly watery, almost aggressive carbonation, somewhat decent grassy-herbal finish. o-k.

From notes. Dark color with very little head. Malty, slightly sweet, very low carbonation. Slight lingering aftertaste.

473ml can. Dark brown orange beer (Lovibond 25/26). Small head.. Wait, nope. Make that meniscus lace. Aroma of metal and medicine. Tastes kind of bland until you swallow it - strange aftertaste. Not sweet and not bitter, but persistent chemical taste after swallowing. Mediocre palate and medium carbonation.

Just makes it to a 2 finger head. Soapish. Smells kinda like meat kinda buts not a smoked beer. Anywyas it’s a bit waterish kinda tasteing like a cherry cola but different then how a cherry cola really taste. After a while the chocolate and mabye caramel I taste gets stronger but other dark beers show is more cus the tade water/cola aspect to it mutes it a little. heavy bodied. Not best dark beer ever but not worst & am a dark beer fan cheers!

I remember loving this six or seven years ago. After spending some time in England, I still have a soft spot for it. One of my favourite styles, so here we go... Nice and nutty in aroma, colour and taste (hence the name I suppose). Dryish. The lacing could be better. The best I’ve tried so far from this brewer. I guess it’s a little plain but if you like the nut browns it’s got all you need and more.

Originally rated May 2005. This is Amsterdam’s competition brew to KLB Nut Brown (both brewed in Ontario - before Amsterdam bought out KLB). This one poured a dark brown colour with a tanned head and decent retention. The lacing was not much and the carbonation was heavy. Had roasted malt scents. The taste was bitter and roasted with a smooth drier aftertaste. The nut was also pronounced. Full mouthfeel. Not a bad beer, but very close to the Kawartha Lakes Brewery one.
