Goldorak (439), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 11, 2005 Cola-ish dark brown with slight hints of crimson, soapy bubbles with little to no head retention.
Coffee and caramel, with a leafy, grassy hop smell. There might be some Saaz in there, but something else I couldn’t pin down.
Smooth carbonation, thin dark brown malt middle and a hop finish I felt more on my tongue than on my palate. Not too sweet, quite well attenuated in fact, it didn’t taste too boozy either.
Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 19, 2005 very dark brown colour. Appropriately better than average carbonation, well-malted, and a significant amount of smoke. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 29, 2005 Draught, Smokeless Joe’s. Dark brown colour with a cream white head. Not much aroma at all, which is surprising on the first sip, as there is an intense caramel sweetness - it is like they wanted to make sure the flavour came through in a big way - mission accomplished. Unfortunately, I think they went overboard, as I usually love sweet malty beers, but found this to be tough to finish by the end. Typically thin and watery from this brewery. I will give good marks for effort though, a valid attempt at the style. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 16, 2005 Draft. C’est What. Dark red brown body, small creamy beige head. Muted aroma of sweetly alcoholic malt. Flavour is similarly alcoholic, with initial sweet malt and a very dry finish. Average palate, lingering aftertaste. Not bad. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 15, 2005 Sampled at C’est What’s Spring 2005 Festival of Small Breweries. Dark amber colour. Sweetish malt aroma. Nice mouthfeel, slightly creamy. Sweet caramel malt flavour with a nicely hopped finish. Quite an impressive effort for this generally lacklustre brewery. joeycapps (1466), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada May 4, 2003 Clear gold w/ white head. Moderate malt aroma. Light feel. Not very flavorful but the finish is fairly sweet. jbrus (4835), Delft, Netherlands Jul 25, 2002 It was spring and it was a bock. But that’s all. Not very interesting but drinkable. Sweet, some spice (I think it was coreander), malty. DougShoemaker (2855), Toronto, Canada Mar 14, 2002 Malty aroma, clear garnet, walnuts taste. Dry and full flavoured.
Happy Spring!
