I tried this beer on February 20, 2012 after purchasing from the Queen’s Quay LCBO outlet in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a very dark brown, almost black colour (think coca-cola) with a short-lived brown head. Aroma is roasted malt, plums, and coffee. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. The flavour is very malty, sweet, and very enjoyable. I liked this beer.

500 mL bottle. Roasty malt, raisin, caramel and a hint of smokiness on the nose. Pours a rich cola color with tightly knit tan head. Fairly sweet with lingering bitter and sour notes as the sugars subside. Medium to full body, thick and meaty feeling on the tongue. Drank by itself but would have loved to taste it next to a meat pie or some beef stew.

UPDATED: FEB 26, 2011 Rerate - 7%ABV bottle. Deep brown pour. The aroma is lovely with a bit of soft sweet malt. A little bit of toasted malt, chocolate and a bit of cocoa. A little bit of light dustiness on the finish. Pretty solid dunkelbock. Tap at bier bistro. Dark brown beer, thin brown head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Dark toasted malts, sweet brown sugar, light raisin and roasted grain. A bit of licorice on the back as well. Dark and chewy sweet. It’s more doppelbock than dunkel and way too sweet, but it’s decent enough.

I love how prominent the abv is on the bottle, brilliant marketing. Pours deep dark mahogany with a thing off white head. The aroma is pretty much dark fruit, raisins, and tootsie rolls. The flavor is pretty much an exact reflection of that, real big on the tootsie rolls, then ends on a sort of cardboard malt/extract hop bitterness deal. It’s alright, but I’d prefer to drink something else.

pours pale brown-reddish with a nice off-white head. roasted malts, chocolatey, some smoke, tons of grassy and resinous leafy hops that support perfectly the sweetness, never cloying. warming alcohol. medium body, soft carbonation - nice. fairly good brew.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2012 2012 Update: Big sweet up front, with a back that has a hint of something almost minty. Really nice, although quite sweet. Creamy in the mouth. Looks great in glass, tastes pretty solid. Reasonably strong malty caramel presence.

Deep ruby body that gives off aromas of licorice, spices, and bread. Sweet flavour of caramel licorice, currant and some hop bitterness on the back. A slick, oily mouth feel.

Pour brown to copper in color with tan head. Aroma smoke, sweet malt, spices, toffee, dark fruit, brown sugar. Taste cinnamon, smoke, roasty malt, holiday type spices, brown sugar. MF medium body well carbed. Over a pretty solid brew with some unique flavor.

Vintage 2010 edition at the LCBO with 7% ABV. Pours a dark brown, cola-looking colour, clear with a red hue. Beautiful foamy beige head that last a very long time and cloud-like lacing. Dark malt aromas of mild coffee, molasses and burnt sugars. Hop becomes apparent as it breaths, with a touch of mint. Smooth silky mouthfeel a light dry finish. Mild, well-balanced, roasted malt with the hop showing up in the aftertaste. Hints of raisins, liquorices and caramel. I really enjoyed this strong Bock as it when down very nicely, for these long winter nights.

Cloudy brown/mahagony colour. big aroma, fruity a hint of cereal, and a hint of roast. palate has a chocolate/roast flavour. foamy and creamy and same time balanced by an alcohol texture. I don’t know why this one scores so low. it is a decent Dunkler Bock.
