Bottle - Vintage 2012 - Bittersweet chocolate, soy and molasses. Oily jet black and a thin beige head. Espresso and bittersweet chocolate and a bitterness that balances sweetness. Very nice.

My Bottom Line:
This spot-on Imperial Stout develops delicious roasted malts with dark chocolate accents, as black pepper and alcohol warmth spice up the finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the blackness.
-The malt profile is beautiful from aroma to finish.
-The mouthfeel is rich yet never cloying.
-There are some black bean depths as well in the chewy center of the cereal profile.

Bottle.

*Tempest Imperial Stout* Amsterdam Brewery (which is in Toronto) Pretty much black pout with a ton of brown foamy head. A ton. Looks like sponge toffee. Scent is malty and chocolaty. Mouth is bitter, like a really dark bitter chocolate with a malty sweetness coming in right at the end. The middle is smoked. Aftertaste is boozy. Quite the flavor journey. Okay read the bottle wrong, thought this was 7% and it’s %9, no wonder it’s boozy.

2013. Noir. Mousse brune foncé. Opaque. Semble riche. Nez: chocolat. Truffe. Café au lait. Anis. Guimauve. Coca/Rootbeer. Fraise. Écorce d'Orange. Malt fumé. Vanille. Bouche: alcool. Forte amertume. Chocolat noir. Cendré. Orange/liqueur.

Really dark pour with a modest head. Chocolate coffee caramel ...however it lacks a little depth for an imperial stout.

bottle 2012 9%. Poured dark opaque black with a creamy mocha brown head. Aroma of roasted barley and a touch of alcohol. Thick oily texture with a warming finish. Roasted malt flavour, a little burnt. Coffee, treacle, vanilla flavours all mashed together with a medium dry finish.

2013 bottle from LCBO. Nice, dark pour with a meager head. Aromas full of roasted coffee and chocolate, with a hint of green hops. Palate is pretty substantial and the flavour is a nice mix of spice, chocolate malts and bitter hops. Overall very good, will likely mellow nicely with age. The wax top was a bugger, though.

Dark brownish murk with coffee head. Aroma of heavy malts, coffee and chocolate hints. Flavour is equal however the body is a little thin. Afters are bitter but such a thin body.

500 mL bottle. Pours opaque black with a nice tan head and lots of lacing. Rich chocolatey aroma with layers of vanilla, coffee, deep caramel, roast and herbal hop. Big lingering mouth feel with moderate carbonation and a full body. Lightly sweet offset by a good hop bite. Undetectable alcohol. Very well made.

2012 bottle. Creamy, milk chocolate, dark malt. Really mellow rich aroma. Completely black, long lasting brown aroma, very viscous pour. Looks great. Really smooth, upfront some sweetness and chocolate, finishes with soy sauce, metal and a slight leafy hop bitterness. The age definitely smoothed this one out. Full bodied, average carbonation. A great imperial stout.
