2013 bottle. Dark black pour, nice tan head. Aroma, very hop forward, almost smells like an imperial black IPA. Taste, some nice hop character up front, a bit of roasted malts, and bitter lingering finish. Overall it lacks that umph that I like in my imperial stouts, nicely done though.

Very dark brown. Thin head, nose is rich, deep dark fruits (plums, raisins), that classic burnt fruitcake, molasses and Okinawan black sugar. The body has a little lightness for the style, but the palate still shows muted fruity dark sugars.

(Rating #5431)

pours almost black with a tall and creamy beige head, very good retention and strong lacing. grassy, spicy and resinous - black ipa-like hopping, big chocolate malts and strong bitter coffee notes, very boozy, very peppery and spicy, slightly perfumey, some vegetal staleness in background. moderate carbonation, medium to full body - oily, assertive and harsh piney-grassy-spicy-peppery finish. like an undrinkable imperial black ipa - tasty and hoppy but definitely too boozy for me and not what i’m looking for in a stout.
