Bottle from LCBO. Pours opaque dark with a thin brown head. Aroma is really roasty, with leather and molasses. Taste is roasty, with bitter dark chocolate, and a bitter finish. A creamy vanilla taste creeps up over time. Smooth palatte, with light carbonation and a full body. This was great stuff - by far the best offering I’ve had from Amsterdam!

2012 edition, found at the LCBO. Brown bottle with black wax over cap. Pours a real dark brown colour with no highlights found. Average head, creamy mocha, decent retention and a little lace. Beautiful coffee aromas with notes of roasted malt, molasses and nuts. Full-bodied with a nice silky smooth mouthfeel, and no burning at all. The taste is even mild, but with some roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, burnt wood, and hops showing in the end, giving some hints of apples. Goes down too smoothly... dangerous !! Nice to see one of the better Amsterdam products appear in Ottawa stores. Keep ’em coming !

Really love this one. Pours black with a light tan ring and no lacing. Nose is bitter chocolate and roasted grain. Aromas are dark chocolate, espresso, some dark fruit, roasted grain. Tastes are strong sweet with a really nice bitter finish. Alcohol is present but well integrated. Mouthfeel is medium body with lively carbonation.

1 finger soapy brown head. Jet black mabye little brown cant see if carbinaded. Smell is chocolate with some light bitterness that reminds me of ipa’s as it warms and a light sourness. Heavy bodied and tase of liquid/syrupy chocolate with a light bitterness that has a light sourness. Filling beer. Not worst or best stout I ever had. Stout fan here Cheer’s!

500ml bottle. Even stiffly poured, there is barely a tan head. Minuscule lacing as well. Slightest of aromas suggests chocolate and roasted beans. Instantly superb flavour of sharp hops which is completely absorbed by the chocolatey sweet, malty goodness. Hides the alcohol well! Really thick mouthfeel which suits this offering. Wonderfully smooth palate, like a milkshake. Great beer!

2012 Bottle. Pours a midnight black, with a massive tan head that has spots of lace. Nose of rich dark roasted malts coffee and caramel sugars. Tastes a perfect balance of bitter, dark chocolate and coffee like malts. Everything you could ask for, good job.

2012 Bottle, 9%, LCBO. Pitch black with a chocolatey brown head. Aroma is interesting but not quite inviting - sort of tinny, some alcohol, but in a port sort of way, a bit of roast malt - this threw me off a bit. Taste - better! Sweet, strong, roasty and rich. Medium oily mouthfeel suits it perfectly. A thick big beast of a stout that is very good, but just finishes too short - lacks the complexity of the exceptional beers in this category. Still, a fine effort that I will buy again (and have already) - aging should do this one some good as well.

Smells very good from the outset. Pours black/mahogany with mocha foam. There’s smoke, roast malt and hops in the taste here. Pretty low carbonation. Taste has a little spice but palate is very cloying - leaves sour after five second mark. Very sweet and syrupy, palate is very viscous. Almost a little puckering. Starts off well but doesn’t really end on the same note. A little overrated. 2012 bottle.

Bottle. Pours inky black, brown head. Aroma is chocolate and expresso, roast. Taste is fantastic. Warming, yet no alcohol, rich coffee and chocolate, sweet start and just enough bitter hop at the end to balance it out. Really nice, looking forward to seeing how this does in a few years in my cellar.
