Nice clean finish leaves you wanting another sip. Deep ruby colour with very little head. Not much aroma, slight sweet malt/metallic. Nice earthy caramally flavour. Very smooth. Cheers! | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 6, 2007 On tap @ Chaucer’s a few weeks ago. It poured deep chestnut, with ruby red hues and a beige frothy cap. Well laced glass. Slightly charred nutty aroma leads into mild brown sugar and roasted malts/rye bread. The flavour profile is something of burnt sugars and toasty rye bread, heading into some semi-sweet caramel, fading into some smoke and perhaps peat. Finishes quite chalky, and perhaps a touch thin for the weight. Still a pleasure to drink. gilvanblight (397), Windsor, Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 15, 2007 Very dark pour of a deep red. Weak scent (though was in a crowded pup) A bit of spice and malts. Bitter rush immediately on the tongue that fades fast. Either boozy or spicy on the tongue, leave a bit of a burn. A touch of earth malts in the finish. A very good ’local’ draft. HogTownHarry (4037), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Dec 10, 2006 Bottle (341ml - clear *sigh*). Purchased fresh from the brewery. Poured lively clear bright ruby with a large foamy-creamy-sticky-topped tan head - lovely (4+). Aroma is pretty standard sweet lightly toasted malt and some light grassy hops. Taste ... pretty tame - grainy malt, dry weedy hops, bitter finish, not enough malt. Dry, astringent, light bodied mouthfeel, not much alcohol character, slight hint of chocolate malt in the aftertaste ... beef this up a little and you’ve got a decent scotch ale - as it is, while there’s nothing WRONG with it, it’s somewhat lacking in memorableness. Still one of their better brews, of course ... robinvboyer (1444), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

dark red/amber color. right off the bat, I can smell the alcohol, with a touch of caramel, and malt. flavour is rich, and malty, with some caramel in there. A nice offering, one of their better beers for sure. mabel (2626), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Medium leathery aroma with light grassy straw, plastic and noticeable alcohol. Clear, deep ruby red body with a few random bubbles and a quick light brown foamy head. Flavour has medium meaty quality with something earthy and a light bitter background in the aftertaste. Medium-full body, a bit astringent. Lovely colour and togetherness, repeatable. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 29, 2007 Bottle. Ruby tinged dark brown body pours with a big billowy chocolate head that disappears as fast as it rises. Aroma is fairly muted, notes of caramel malt. Sweet caramel malt flavour, light earthy notes and a malty tang. Earthy chocolate-cocoa notes linger in the aftertaste. Palate is slightly above average, and on the thin side for the style. Pleasant but lacks the necessary gravitas.
