Day after Amsterdam Tap Takeover, at Bar Volo. Sweet beer, more like a sweet stout. Orange citrus. Somewhat astringent. Not on the mark. Some chocolate malt. Closer to an English Mild in taste. Some astringency in the aftertaste. On cask.

Bottle given to me by my step brother. Pours like a wine, reddish brown, finger of of white head, clingy sticky lacing. Nose is sweet caramel, wine like, tastes sweet, sugary, a touch bitter, raisin, a little biscuit, malt, burnt caramel. Nice complexity, would likely see some sort of barrelled version.

650ml bottle into tulip. Minneapolis. Pours very dark amber with ruby tint. Zero head. Aroma has some sweet element to it- molasses and caramel. Itís also earthy and nutty. Some leather notes. Dark fruits. Taste mild sweetness dominates. Subtle bitterness to balance. Body is medium-full. Very soft carbonation. Smooth texture. Longer finish. Fairly decent old ale, but lacks some if the complexity I was hoping for. Body was a little on the weak side.

En fût au brewhouse. Brune. Ronde. Entré sucré. Caramel. Légèrement saline. Un peu épicé. Belle amertume. Finale légèrement boisé. Bien.

650 mL bottle. Very dark brown pour, thin tan head, little bit of retention. Aroma of dark fruit, a bit of alcohol, earthy, dark chocolate. Taste is complex too, same as the aroma. Medium body, fairly bubbly.

Bottle. Pours dark brown like cola with a small tan head. Aroma is sweet grape juice, a bit of bread, bing cherries. Flavour is dark fruits, grape and raisin, vinous notes, with some coffee and dark chocolate. Lots going on here and fairly well balanced - not too sweet, just a touch of tartness - but a little overcarbonated. Pretty nice, but nothing incredibly special.

ENG: 650ml bottle from Liquor Mart Winnipeg, poured into the snifter. Dark brown color with medium dark-yellow head. Aroma from the bottle: valeric acid and some chocolate. Aromas from the glass are spirit (even like salicylic alcohol), chocolate, apricot, hints of prunes and filled chocolates. Taste is smoky and earthy with chocolate, maybe coffee, roasted malts, licorice. Slight soury and bitter toffee aftertaste. There is some booze too, carbonation is low, body is medium. What I really not enjoyed here is the aromas... I felt like Iím in hospital. Taste is much better, but I cant give this beer high note, because of that aromas... ///~~~///~~~/// ///~~~///~~~/// ///~~~///~~~/// ///~~~///~~~/// PL: Butelka 650ml kupiona w Liquor Mart w Winnipeg, przelana do kieliszka. Ciemno brązowa, niemal czarna barwa z delikatnymi przebłyskami, średnia ciemno-żůłta piana. W butelce wyczuwalny kwas walerianowy, nieco czekolady. Aromaty z kieliszka spirytusowe, nawet spirytus salicylowy, czekolada, morele, nuty suszonych śliwek i likierowych bombonierek.

Black body brown head, nice retention, attractive. Cereal aroma, some booze. Taste is sweet and malty, some dryness, but has a watery finish and thin palate. Okay.

650 ml bottle from the LCBO.

Appearance: Pours an opaque dark brownish black with a finger of tan head with little retention. Leaves a bit of lacing behind.

Aroma: Dark chocolate, black licorice, toasted malt, cola.

Flavours: Dark malt, dark chocolate, coffee, cola, brown sugar, rasins.

Mouthfeel: Thin but smooth.

Overall: A nice Olde Ale but the mouthfeel is a bit thin. That said, I really do like the dark malt, chocolate and coffee flavours. This is a seasonal worth trying. I have a second bottle which Iím going to put away and try next year. Iíll see if I have the same reaction that Randy4Beer had.
