2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
500 ml bottle. Unclear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma has malt, caramel and Christmas spices. Flavor is medium sweet malt, some caramel, unbalanced spicy and some kind of slightly sour and harsh citric zest. A bit light in body and this probably makes the heavy spice mix kind of unbalanced. The hint of sourness actually makes it a bit more interesting, but not sure it’s intended, at least it’s a rather original idea for this kind of beer. This one was nothing close to the best beers from Amundsen.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Pours a dark hazy nut brown body with a large creamy white head. Aroma is band-aids, grains, caramel, banana and hints of brown sugar and clove. Taste is sour grainy tones, caramel, cinnamon, clove and hints of burnt sugar and brown bread. Medium to light body, medium to high carbonation. The spices in this one makes it seem almost infected with astringency and sharpness, compared to the light body and moderate sweetness in general. Not the best of attempts at a spiced Christmas beer from Amundsen.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. It pours an almost clear body, dark amberish brown in color and with a small, dense, light beige head on top. The aroma is rather spiced, with cloves and some ginger, overpowering the roasted malts and caramel. Semi-sweet and feeling sort of dry on the palate, with a pleasant carbonation level. Lasting roasted, spiced flavor with caramel and a touch of chocolate. A decent one, but the spicyness feels a bit unbalanced. 141220

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Jingle bells, Santa comes to town and adeste fideles, this is what a real Christmas beer should taste like! I mean, what’s the point in calling a beer a Christmas beer if it doesn’t smell and taste like Christmas? This one has a strong aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon and other christmassy spices, all in front of a solid malty background. The same goes for the flavour. It’s not as ridiculously spiced as e.g. Nřgne Ř Underlig Jul, but it’s a good alternative if your local Vinmonopol is out of the latter. It’s moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter, mid-bodied and with a moderate carbonation. A very nice brew!
