3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20 Kestral (494) - Årnes, - SEP 19, 2011
Tap at Amundsen Spiseri & Bryggeri. Black, with a large, creamy, beige head. Aroma is floral. Immensely floral. Also, sort of milky and sweet, in a milkshake sort of way. And that’s.. basically all it gives away. Flavourwise, it’s much the same. Tons of floral notes, it’s almost like drinking rosewater. A bit soapy and perfumy. There is sweetness here which has got to come from the malts, but the malts have no character. They sort of disappear. A hint of something that reminds me of cough syrup in the finish. Liquid velvet on the tongue, way creamy, medium bodied. This wasn’t a bad drink by any means. The flavours were wierd, but not unpleasant. I must admit I like my black IPAs to be roasty and citric. This didn’t have any off flavours though, like a lot of their paler ales have got, so that’s good.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 yngwie (9175) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - MAY 16, 2012
On tap at Amundsen. It pours a dark brown body and a finger thick beige head. Roasted and hoppy aroma, citrus peel and resin, with a perfumed touch. A bit heavy on carbonation, full-bodied and quite dry. Nice bitterness towards the end, with roasted malts and some coffee-ish butterscotch notes and pears. Lasting bitter finish. A nice beer, but a bit unclean and yeasty. 111014

Well buried sweet berry fruits. Mild banana esters. Very mild coffee. Semi dry finish with a little bubblegum coming through. Quite complex and quite tasty!

On tap @ Amundsen 2011.11.14 Dark amber, almost black body with a moderate tan head. Lovely fruity hop aroma with roasted malt. Flavor is fruity, citric, sweet malty, roast, some caramel and quite bitter. A bit on the sweeter side. OK body, decent aftertaste. Quite nice and pleasant to drink, but some adjustment on the sweet/bitterness balance would make this better.
1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 3/20 ClubGonzo (1943) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 21, 2011
On tap @ Amundsen Bryggeri og Spiseri, Oslo. Pours a black body with a small off-white head. Aroma is near-sour boozy tones, dark malts, dry grassy hops, alcohol and hints of sweet vomit, believe it or not. Too bad, really. Taste is stark malty tones with grass, booze and an underbrush of infectious, sour-sulfurous notes. Bad stuff, and I hope Amundsen and Schouskjelleren can combine forces and actually make something good the next time.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 Palme (1437) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 16, 2011
Tap @ Amundsen, Oslo. This is a deep deep reddish brown beer with a small but lasting creamy and sidesticking light chocolate head. The aroma is nice and yeast-fruity with notes of ripe honey-melon, lots of pear and some apple juice and apple zest. Strange stuff, and not quite as expected. Soft carbonation and it has a medium thick and oily mouthfeel. The flavors are unfortunately totally off. Light infection perhaps? Lots of sour and fruity notes, light roasted soap blended with old dark licorice medicinal tones. Some light roasted and bitter hints towards the finish, but I think this might be a bit off.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 OleR (3647) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 16, 2011
From tap @ Grünerløkka Mat & Mikroølfestival. Very dark, a ruby shade away from entirely black, topped by a medium-sized beige cream head. Inviting hop aroma reminiscent of flowers, ripe yellow fruits and lemonade. Also a whiff of burnt caramel. Taste is on the sweet side of bitter-sweet. Dark caramel, chocolate, burnt sugar and distinct fruity bitterness. Medium full. Bitterness and sugary sweetness in lasting finish.
