Pint @ Rockfish. The only thing dark about this beer is the color. Essentially an IPA. A good IPA, but just an IPA.

Dark brown color with tan foamage. Nice hoppy pine sap, floral aromas with dry black malt. Medium bodied with average co2. Big hoppy bitter pine sap, grapefruit flavors with dusty black malt, semi sweet chocolate to balance--very good Black IPA

Deep murky brown. Hunt of hops amd complex malt. Flavor is well balanced but not sweet. Nice hops on the finish.

On tap at the brewpub/restaurant pouring up hazy dirty brown-ish copper with off white head. The aroma is pretty full with sweet malts suffering under the oppressive weight of pine and grapefruit hops. The taste is big bold pine resiny hops that I’m forced to chew to get down. There’s also a robust note or two of semi sweet grapefruit hop flavor providing a pleasing balance to the bitter pine hoppiness. I get some drying into the finish that pulls toward a sense of roasted malts feebly coming to the surface. This is hoppy goodness.

Draft @ Brouwer’s; for starters, it’s not that dark but more of a clear, dark amber with foamy white head; I’m digging the nose with some fruity hops and light resins; drinks with a soft texture and smooth body; nicely hopped with minimal roast; dry and bitter finish; on the light side for an imperial, but decent overall

draft at brouwers washington beer fest. pours a crystal clear dark amber with coppery overtones. creamy thin sandy head with thick sheets of lace. nice sweet fruity orange and apricot nose. creamy medium body with soft carb. biscuit, toast, grapefruit, and blood orange mid palate. a little bit of tang near the finish, maybe dms, not sure. very promising otherwise.

On tap at Brouwer’s. Pours a light amber with a smallish white head. Nice aroma - lots of hops on the nose, with just enough balance - but it’s very hop-forward. Flavor follows suit, though I’m not sure I’d call this an imperial IPA - it drinks like a regular IPA. If I plop it in that category, it’s pretty good. Certainly not bad at all.

Tap at Naked City. Aroma is very citrusy with grapefruit, orange and lime. Some underlying sweet caramel notes. Pours a murky brownish amber with a thin head and decent lacing. The flavor is vibrant citrus up front with a sweet-ish caramel backbone providing a nice juicy, fruity IIPA. Finish was bright and crisp, but not resiny enough for me and how I like my IIPA’s. Still very pleasant and damn drinkable.
