Inky black with a rich lasting, light foamy tan head. Stern roasted neat choc nose - oaty edge as it warms. Smooth/silky mouthfeel with a backwash of bitterness. Earthy roast, waxy coffee and stewy turfed compost middle. Finish of kola nut and a strained coffee linger but decent swing of drink-ability throughout.

Cask, Friends Of Ham, Leeds

cola brown with thin tan head. rich fruity, slightly smokey coffee and cocoa on nose. Spritzy carbontion. Robust meaty umammi coffee, full bodied, dry lightly smokey notes, touch of bacon, sweet middle section and a dry roasty slightly chalky finish. Excellent, if anything lacking a bit of body for a hefty abv

Fra keg på Lincolnshire Poacher, Nottingham 27 Jan 14. Svart. Lavt mokkafarget luftig skum som varer en stund. Kniplingslacing. Veldig god kaffearoma med innslag av lakris. Smaken godt integrert. Litt kaffe og litt lakris. Lett-drikkelig. Litt syrlig ettersmak. Koseøl.

Bottle. Pours very dark, almost pitch black, with hardly any head. Leaves a few foamy bubbles around the edge. Aroma- creamy chocolate, roasty bitterness, milky coffee, oatiness. Really nice smelling. Taste is lots of coffee and chocolate, big roastiness, creamy, almost smoky, chocolate-covered fruit and nut, lots of espresso in the finish. Very impressive.

Keg. Black, big foamy beige head. Looks very good in the tulip. Leaves polkadot lacing. Smell is mostly musty coffee beans. Body is medium to light - it looks a lot thicker than it feels. Carbonation is medium for the style, smooth and slightly foamy. Taste - mainly bitter coffee beans and 100% cocoa, slight caramel though it’s not particularly sweet. Slightly sharp and metallic which detracts from what is otherwise a pretty impressive beer.

Bottle. It pours a next to black body, with a dark beige head of moderate size. The aroma has lots of licorice, as well as chocolate, coffee and a roasted touch. It’s a bit thin on the palate, dry, with a very soft carbonation. Roasted, coffeeish flavor with chocolate and licorice. Salty too. Salty licorice in the finish. A rather boring one, with some nice elements. 131231
