3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Ellyn’s Tap & Grill in Glen Ellyn, IL., and full sampler served showing a clear, light amber color, with a fluffy & persistent head of off white foam, and curtainy lacing. The nose was light caramel sweetness, ripe apple, with some spice & floral scents. Light bodied, with fair carbonation, and rather thin texture, the taste was similar to the aroma, with an added touch of herbal flavor, and some earthy bitterness. Fairly pleasant, but no noticeable maple throughout, to speak of.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
But exactly what i was expecting or hoping for. Amber color with a monster white head, solid lacing. Aroma was malty with a fruity bitterness. Pleasing palate over all, soft medium body with dry finish. The flavor is where this really disappointed me. Where’s the maple? Not even finding the hint mentioned. And I got this for the maple. Over all just not what i wanted or can appreciate.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
355ml bottle. Clear, amber colour with huge, thick, creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, sulphureous head. Malty and slightly unspecific, fruity aroma, a stripped-down mixture of honeydew melon, peach and red berries with arbitrary omission of some lines of the flavour spectrum, a touch of marzipan, maybe hints of maple sirup. Taste is initially minimally sweet malty with ostensible marzipan touch, later dry hoppy, unspecifically fruity, hints of red berries; dry, bitter hoppy finish. Rightly a classic.

1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
The name of this brew and its description on the label suggest a pleasantly sweet beer with a maple syrup note. Nothing could be further from the truth. This beer has not even a hint of sweetness or maple in it. Instead, it’s acridly bitter with a bizarre grapefruit aftertaste. This is perhaps the worst case of beer mislabeling I’ve ever seen. I have no idea what the people at Anchor were thinking. Terrible, steer clear.

2.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Pours a nice dark amber slight head. To bitter not hoppy didn’t notice any maple flavor wouldn’t get it again.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Amber Ales are such a broad, common zone and everyone has their own preference. I definitely lean toward the hoppy space, yet I don’t like an Amber that could pass as an IPA if tasted with a blindfold. BigLeaf Maple seems like an Amber Ale tailor made for my palate. There’s biscuit-like malts, caramel, and a touch of syrup. The hops are lovely, too. They’re citrusy, bitter, and herbal. Scales are tipped toward hops, but the balance is still solid. Also, I can’t resist beers that make use of local flavors.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass.
Appearance: pours a thick off white head that drops slowly with plenty of lacing. Cloudy amber color with plenty of streaming carbonation.
Aroma: citrus hops completely dominate, some malt in the background.
Mouthfeel: medium bodied and resinous with a dry, somewhat astringent finish.
Flavor: hops are also dominate in the flavor with malt more apparent than the aroma, but still a background element. I do not pick up the maple flavors at all.
Overall: well done American style Amber/Red ale, but no necessarily my personal preference.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Amber beer with a medium foamy light beige head. Hoppy nose of citrus, pine resin, and (surprisingly) vanilla. Flavor is definitely hop forward with some under ripe plum, pith, and leather buttressed by a hint of sweetness, although not enough to balance it out. I really wanted to taste the maple more. Decent, not great.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Nice ruby red hue in a tall snifter. 1 finger of white head. Caramel aroma. Dont detect the maple, has body and flavor of an Irish red.
