Can taste the maple syrup but the beer is very bland outside of that. Sticky palate as a result. Very plain beer, not that great.

Pours a hazy copper color. More hops than malt flavors. Thin on the palate. Very little maple flavor.

Not the most amazing offering from Anchor, but still better than many. A pretty standard ale, to be honest; the only difference is in the subtle taste of maple syrup.

Keg at BD Shoreditch. It pours a clean copper caramel color with a large off white head that sticks around. Aroma is sweet with notes of toffee, molasses, pecan and roasted coffee. Taste is sweet with a light sour finish. Notes of caramelised bread, sunflower seeds and raspberries. Then more fruity sweetness comes through, with peaches and ripe mango. Medium to full bodied with good carbonation. Rather good.

Anchor Big Leaf Maple Autumn Red 6% Bottle from Seijo Ishii, 380 yen. Served in a pint glass. It pours an exceptionally clear golden brown with a foamy off-white head. A malty sweet aroma with a surprisingly strong citrusy hop bouquet. The taste is a bit rough but gives you an earthy biscuit, some maple sweetness, a bit of a sour tang before finishing on a green hoppy bitterness. It’s alright though I was expecting it to be more malt forward.

Meh. Sour. Bleh. Not very good as is usual for Anchor, sadly. Just sort of a plain ale all around.

One finger head, quite hoppy on the front with very little malt. This needs some sweetness for balance. The promised maple is no where to be found.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 24, 2014 Sample at GABF 10/03/2014, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Slightly cloudy copper-amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates steadily. Strings of lacing. Aroma of malt, caramel and hops. Medium body with flavors of sweet malt, piney hops and slight maple. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Pours copper with a beautiful head. Aroma: flowers, a sweet hint of maple syrup and herbs. Taste: pretty herbish and dry, with a bit of sweetness (from the syrup, I suppose). Again a very good and elegant beer from Anchor.
