A quaffable, well-balanced red ale with character. Its malty complexity and coppery color come from a combination of two caramel malts, pale malt, and a hint of maple syrup.

Old copper pour with a 3 finger, fluffy beige head. Aroma of caramel, a little nutty toffee, a hint of sweet woodiness, toast and a little grassy and planty hops. Flavor is toasty and nutty up front, then some caramel, earthy, sort of spicy wood notes that remind me more of birch beer than maple syrup, grassy, spicy and fruity floral hops, light mineral notes and a bit of tannin-ish bite to the finish. Light to medium body, oily entry, immediately knocked out by an off dry feel that leads up to a dry finish that straddles the line between astringent and pleasantly crisp. A medium strength, blanketing and lively carbonation punctuates the overall dryness. Good stuff overall, I was surprised by the dry, woody, husky grain feel of a beer with Maple and Malt mentioned so many times on the label. Good stuff overall, not great, but I feel like I might warm up to it a bit by the time I am done with the six pack.

Bottle BB July 2016. Hazy dark orange or brown, small foamy off-white head, lightly sparkling. Aroma is very sweet with maple, leaves, toffee. Body is medium to light, very foamy in the mouth, soft carbonation. Taste is toffee apple, sweet and malty, slightly dry. Very one-dimensional and over-sweet. Not my sort of thing.

Very nice clear maple pour with a thin white lace. Hop aroma. Nice hop flavour. Settles to a smooth maple finish. Nice beer. Enjoyable ale.

Bottle. Light to moderate bread, cookie and roasted for the malt, light cooked orange and dough for the hops and yeast, with date, alcohol, and maple syrup if you look for it. Head is average size, frothy, beige with fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is medium tan-ish amber. Flavor starts moderately aciidc, and finishes lightly acidic and bitter. Palate is medium, slick, with a lively carbonation. A great tasting and easy drinking Amber Ale.

On tap at Twisted Jimmys. Very mild sweet nose, can’t really smell maple. Nutty with some caramel. Dark amber hazy with thin off-white lacing head. Medium body with medium carbonation. Starts moderately sweet with caramel, light nutty notes, and light bitter hop finish. Not much going on here, middle of the road amber.

Bottle. Pours a clear dark amber body with a one inch frothy off-white head that left some sparse lace. The nose is toasty and lightly sweet caramel malt with a light hint of maple syrup. While the flavor is on the sweeter side, it’s balanced pretty well with a light hint of hops on the back end. The maple syrup is pretty natural tasting. Light to medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and a lingering toasty maltiness. Pretty decent beer, I like that the sweetness from the maple syrup isn’t crazy overpowering.

Bottle from Beautiful Beers in Bury St. Edmunds. Amber/red, small slightly off white head, good lacing. Substantial malt aroma with sweetness, possibly bolstered by the maple syrup. Hints of spice too. Good mouthfeel, appropriate carbonation. Delicious toffee and malt sweetness, spiciness and a lovely bitter finish. Great autumn beer, especially for the price.

Tastes a lot like some of the IPA’s from the Anchor Brewing Company apart from a much heavier bitter aftertaste. Very nice!
