A quaffable, well-balanced red ale with character. Its malty complexity and coppery color come from a combination of two caramel malts, pale malt, and a hint of maple syrup.

Old copper pour with a 3 finger, fluffy beige head. Aroma of caramel, a little nutty toffee, a hint of sweet woodiness, toast and a little grassy and planty hops. Flavor is toasty and nutty up front, then some caramel, earthy, sort of spicy wood notes that remind me more of birch beer than maple syrup, grassy, spicy and fruity floral hops, light mineral notes and a bit of tannin-ish bite to the finish. Light to medium body, oily entry, immediately knocked out by an off dry feel that leads up to a dry finish that straddles the line between astringent and pleasantly crisp. A medium strength, blanketing and lively carbonation punctuates the overall dryness. Good stuff overall, I was surprised by the dry, woody, husky grain feel of a beer with Maple and Malt mentioned so many times on the label. Good stuff overall, not great, but I feel like I might warm up to it a bit by the time I am done with the six pack.

Amber beer with a medium white head. Aroma is caramel with a hint of maple. Tastes of rich caramel and bread with a little hop bitterness. Finishes dry with lingering bitterness. Overall a nice amber beer without too much maple character.

Pours clear coppery amber with a fairly thick and fine-bubbled pale buff head that leaves good lacing. Aroma presents malty, hay and caramel notes. Flavor delights with toasty malt, hoppy, and subtle caramel and hay notes. Mouthfeel features decent body and fizz. Don’t leaf this off your list of autumn beers!

Appearance: clear medium amber with one finger of rocky ivory head, excellent retention and decent lacing. (4/5) Aroma: muted, resiny pine, citrus, caramel, very light maple. (5/10) Taste: moderate-low sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Medium slightly oily body, moderate carbonation, off-dry moderate bitter finish. (4/5) Surprisingly bitter for an amber, particularly a nominally “maple” one. (Surprising, but by no means unwelcome.) The “maple,” on the other hand, is surprisingly absent, given the name and nominal style. The low sweetness and off-dry bitter finish make this pretty sessionable, even if it doesn’t smell all that interesting. (13/20)

Bottle at home. Amber with moderate white head. Predominantly malty and caramel nose and taste. Earthy notes and aftertaste. Some citrus and light fruit. Surprisingly bitter, but not unpleasantly so. Solid seasonal.

Surprising bitter almost dry beer. Some warmth. Maple is understands. Aroma is fresh hoppy with some caramel. Strange but fine beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Seijo Ishii. L: a nice dark auburn with a finger of lasting beige head. Good lacing. S: a whiff of hop with plenty of sweet malt, a hint of raspberries, and maple syrup. T: similar to the nose, though not as large, a good balance between malt and hop flavour, definite syrupy sweetness in there. F: nicely carbonated, chewy malt, earthy. O: a tasty seasonal, good complexity for what it is, worth picking up.

Clear amber with a nice thick frothy head. Aroma pine and spruce and peat. Strong hop character with some caramel sweetness and earthy undertones. Light and oily. Not bad but not my style.

Bottled, 355 ml. Shows an opal amber red with a lasting creamy off-white head on its top. Citrussy-malty nose. Aroma brings a mild sweet caramel, florals and citrusses underpainted gently by maple. Lingering, gently warming, earthy-citrussy finish. Very nice.

(Bottle) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of caramel, red fruit, apricots, peaches, toast and a touch of maple syrup. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, apricots, peaches, orange peel, a touch of maple syrup and a balanced citric bitterness. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Tasty and well balanced, with an interesting maple syrup touch. Nice one.
