A quaffable, well-balanced red ale with character. Its malty complexity and coppery color come from a combination of two caramel malts, pale malt, and a hint of maple syrup.

Old copper pour with a 3 finger, fluffy beige head. Aroma of caramel, a little nutty toffee, a hint of sweet woodiness, toast and a little grassy and planty hops. Flavor is toasty and nutty up front, then some caramel, earthy, sort of spicy wood notes that remind me more of birch beer than maple syrup, grassy, spicy and fruity floral hops, light mineral notes and a bit of tannin-ish bite to the finish. Light to medium body, oily entry, immediately knocked out by an off dry feel that leads up to a dry finish that straddles the line between astringent and pleasantly crisp. A medium strength, blanketing and lively carbonation punctuates the overall dryness. Good stuff overall, I was surprised by the dry, woody, husky grain feel of a beer with Maple and Malt mentioned so many times on the label. Good stuff overall, not great, but I feel like I might warm up to it a bit by the time I am done with the six pack.

Bottle from Village Wine and Spirits. Nice roasty malt nose, raisins and very light prune. Pretty reddish-copper color, thick rocky head. Sharp caramel, light spicy hops, finish is a bit harsh but not unpleasant. Medium body. Rich flavors, but I donít really get the maple. This has the signature Anchor flavor profile.

Bottle. Malty hoppy nose - nutty, fragrant, northern brewer hops and some other spicey notes. Big flavor for an amber - pleasantly bittersweet, good layered flavors of caramel malt. Finishes with floral bitter hoppiness. Very good.

Single bottle. As I get older, I an starting to enjoy malty beers. This is a beautiful, deep amber beer with a creamy, tan head. Caramel on the nose and sweet, malty flavors with a tiny hint of maple syrup. A decent beer. Very balanced. Easy to drink. Looking forward as always to fall.

It smells balanced. Nice hoppy aromas with ample malt backing it up. Taste wise, itís not as balanced as the smell as the bitter hops are very assertive. I do have to say the malt is well done and I do get hints of maple. A very pleasurable mouthfeel. This is a solid brew for the autumn season and itís very easy to drink.
