Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Pours dark brown with a small dense tan head that leaves some stringy lace. Sweet and roasty caramel and toffee aroma. Similar flavor with a hint of dark fruit. Rich mouthfeel with light carbonation and a slightly bitter finish.

Poured cloudy and brown with reddish highlights. A two-finger tall, off-white head appeared and offered average lacing. The aroma was lots of malts, light toffee and slightly metallic. The flavor was malts, toffee, unchecked alcohol and a touch of chocolate. Almost medium in body. Didn’t quite come together for me. The weird combination of metal and alcohol on the finish really distracted me.

Pours a dark reddish brown. Minor light brown head. Dark and murky but glassy on the exterior. Heavy cherry sweet liqueur smell, like a barleywine. Roasted malt is nutty and also sweet; brown sugary. Some mild grape notes. Harsh sweet cherry flavor mixed with burnt, nutty malt. Brown sugar with grainy barley. Molasses and corn syrup. Feels syrupy and thick. Has a sharp little bite on the back of the tongue. Ashy and substantial. Good, but not great. Strong and sweetly roasted.

Dark brown. A frothy, active head leaves a glass-coating but temporary lace. Aroma has plenty of caramel, which clashes a bit with some herbal tendencies in it. Flavor blends dusty earth, caramel, and nut into a pleasing harmony. A hint of chocolate. Slightly lactic. Medium body and carbonations. Slightly tannic. Would drink again.

Dark translucent brown. Aroma is a bit nutty with some caramel, malt and sweetness. Rich and full of chocolate malts, caramel and some fruit. A little thinner and drier than I expected, but pretty good.
