COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Pours a nice red brown color w/ a nice foamy head of evenly sized small bubbles. Sweet caramel dominates the nose, lots of raisin w/ a very slight toasty note. Flavor is similarly malt centric but the body isn’t too heavy and the carbonation is sweet and creamy. There is a weird sort of charcoal and sour character in the background that sort of brings it down a bit. This is an OK beer w/ a small flavor flaw which makes it somewhat below average.

Pours dark brown with a two-finger-wide light brown head. Aroma is very nutty, with some sweet caramel/toffee thrown in. Flavor is somewhat thin, not nearly as good as the aroma. Very carbonated and not much flavor besides some slight bittersweetness in the finish.

Draught via waterfront. Pored dark. Nutty aroma. Good consistency. Malty taste. Pretty well done imo.

12 oz bottle. Pours deep, deep brown with a light brown head. Aroma has lots of dark fruits, raisin and red grape, some molasses, toffee, and caramel. Flavor has the dark fruits, toffee, and caramel, but leans more strongly into coffee and roasty territory. This is really quite tasty.

The first American craft bock I’ve opened this Spring. Pours beautiful deep brown color and a perfect head. Lacing is good, not too sticky.Great nose, lots of caramel and malt - similar to a porter. Palate is strange; lots of carbonation and thin. Very drinkable, but not really in a good way. I’m a bit disappointed in how casual the beer is, but I guess I’m just used to Dopplebocks. Flavor is good but not great. Quite bitter with hints of fennel.

Pours dark brown with a great brown head leaving a lots of lace. Aroma is roasted, sweet, malty, raisins, prunes and fidges. Lean sweet malty mouthfeel. Flavor is caraway, fennel, spicy, malty, hoppy and apples. Very drinkable with a thin body. Sweet sourish fruity palate. Finishes fruity sweet with a very pleasant dry tart aftertaste.

Bottle. Dark black color with a thick head that fades away leaving a nice lace on the top. Smells of fruit, chocolate and sugar. Tastes fruity and ginger with a malty backbone. Reminds me of the christmas ale a little. Not as heavy as it looks. Not what i expected for a bock but itd good nonetherless, and very drinkable. Nice brew from anchor.

Deep brown with red hues and yellow-tan head. Great malty aroma, Munich malts, gingerbread, biscuit, dark fruit. Non-cloying, sweet malt with dry, roast malt finish that lingers. Medium body. A little more roast and dry of a finish than I usually like in a bock...but still a great showing.
