COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Pours a dark molasses brown with lots of tan foamy, lacy head on top that retained pretty well. Smell is of roasted grain, some dark fruits like currants or plums, with a hint of caramel sweetness as well. Taste is nice, with those dark currants coming through to go with a slightly phenolic, medicine taste that is nice. Aftertaste is slightly funky, but also pleasing. Caramel hits when needed, preventing too much phenolic/fruity/bitter tastes. This brew is full and well-bodied as is typical for the bock style, but right now this guy is hitting the spot even more than the average bock usually does. Just love how filling these beers are. Mouthfeel is great, with perfect carbonation and that body I was just talking about. Drinkability is awesome, don’t see any end to me drinking this if I had a six pack on me right now. Love it.

Bottle. Deep dark brown colored in appearance with dense beige head. The aroma is a blend of butterscotch, toffee and toasted malt. The taste is mostly roasted malt and coffee in addition to caramel, toffee and lemon citrus toward the end. The finish is dry and roasty with a slight malt aftertaste. Its overall flavor is definitely a unique interpretation of the Bock style and is almost closer to a Stout or a Porter.

12oz bottle in a shaker. Pours dark brown with a thick beige head. Aroma of bread, nuts, caramel, and a little spice. Flavor similar, and it actually reminds me of Coca Cola with alcohol and a bit of malt flavor. Average texture. A good dunkler bock.

12 oz bottle: Pours deep mahogony in color with a nice tan head. Malty notes in the aroma with definite caramel, light roasted notes and some coffee coming through. Smooth, medium body with a semi-slick mouthfeel. A bit of molasses, roasted barley, and caramel with slight notes of coffee in the palate. Overall a really enjoyable beer, great for the cold winter days without it being too thick and chewy or complex. Overall: B+

This is a really nice brew. Malty and chewy and really simple. Nothing special about it but just good. Would be perfect with stew or other meaty soups.

12 oz bottle from Bevmo. Pours a dark brown color with a medium beige head that slowly recedes to a fine ring. The aroma is strong with anise, chocolate, barley and black licorice. The flavor is similar to the aroma, nicely roasted grains, licorice, molasses, musty grapes and some chocolate. The palate is full and smooth with soft carbonation. The finish is long with lingering molasses. Overall: A very tasty bock.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown color with a thin tan head. Nice, malty aroma. Some roasted nuts in the background to go with some brown sugar. Light, dry taste. A hint of milk chocolate. Very smooth. A pretty impressive beer from Anchor!

Deep reddish-brown with a small beige head. Aroma is pretty sweet, with caramel malt, some fruitiness, wheat and a touch of hops. The flavor is somewhat plain: slightly sweet, slightly bitter, with a dull roasted taste that reminds me of a schwarzbier. Body is medium and a little fizzy. Not a bad beer, just lacking in the taste department.
