Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

12 oz. single bottle from Total Wine. Pours a dark brown color with a light tan head. Aroma is sweet malts with a bit hops and some fruity notes. Taste is nutty, roasted malt and a light hopped finish. Easy to drink and very tasty, I will grab a six pack of this the next time I see it.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a moderately large brown head. Aroma is sweet malt---bread and dark fruits predominating---with some herbal hops. Flavor is bready, nutty, a little roast, a little grain, possibly a sour note, and a short finish with a few hops. A bit unusual, with crisp, almost sharp malt instead of the usual bock malt character. Pretty good though.

Attractive tawny garnet body with a tight slightly oily tan head. Bread, gain, cream, and plums with an undercurrent of dark green herbal hops. Mouthfeel is a little on the bright side, was hoping for a tad more thickness. Brassy grains, raisins, coco powder, and toasted biscuit. Finishes with a bit of malted milk and is gone.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with ruby highlights and a a very large brown head. The aroma was sweet, malty and lightly roasty. The flavor was tangy, bitter, roasty and a but nutty with a long tangy an d roasty finish. The mouthfeel was decently thick. Decent but rather forgettable.

A nice looking beer when poured into a mug. A great head that sticks around with a beautiful mahogany body. One of the nicer looking bocks and beers I have seen. The aroma is full of nuts and you even pull a bitter aroma if that is possible, you get a good sense of what is coming. The first taste is bitter and nutty. Nice but it sits a little off on the palate. As is usual with me it betters as it warms. I may just start drinking everything at room temperature to start.

Opaque dark brown pour with a three-quarter inch tan head. Nutty aroma with some toasted malt. Flavor is dark: lightly bitter nut, maybe toasted pecan, wood and black bread. Pleasantly smooth bock with medium thickness and a slightly slick mouthfeel. Rich and excellent.
