COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

12oz bottle. Pours a dark amber to brown with reddish highlights and one finger white tan head that settles quickly. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of yeast, grain, earth, light chocolate, some floral esters. Flavor is about the same, some very faint roast and slightly more chocolate, malt flavors. Medium body with a malty finish.

Brown, red color with a tan head. Aroma is very malty - fruity, roasted, coffee. Flavor is sweet but there is some bitterness and hops.

Pours a deep red color with a nice amount of lacing and a good thick head that lasts through the beer. Aroma is impressive and smells like hot wort. Taste is just as good and smooth through the finish. Enjoyable beer and one of the better bocks that i have encountered.

Pours very dark brown with a thick tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is of toast and sweet malts and hops. Taste is sweet malt, dry hops and a slightly bitter hop aftertaste. Good beer but not a "bock" at all.

Bottle. Poured dark reddish brown with a small off brown head that dissipated quick. Smell composed mostly of grains and some herbs. Flavor was laid back and had a medium sweet tone, composed mostly of caramel, raisin, sugar, molasses and malts, but added a hop kick to keep it from being too sweet. Medium body, nicely cut to find the balance between water and sap. Finished with light hop notes and slightly bitter. A fine beer, that had a little more than most spring bocks offer. Nicely brewed.

12oz bottle. Over-carbonated and a touch thin in the mouth, though not thin is you think of it as a dunkel instead of bock. Dark brown with a lasting beige head. Lightly fruity aroma with a touch of strawberry, some caramel, cocoa, and dark bread crust. The flavor is dry and a touch acidic, with a dark roasted and almost tart finish that has a toasty chocolate malt touch. There is some almost burnt bread and berry up front, but just a modest sweetness. This is some very attenuated stuff. Hops are mild in flavor and are mostly just noticeable in a medium finishing bitterness that is accentuated by the dryness. The aroma is initially interesting, but this one could benefit from some more body and malt flavor.

12-oz bottle. Coffee colored with pillowy tan persistent head. Good lacing on the glass. Aroma of tabacco, dried apricot, coffee and raisin. Taste is earthy and smoky with a hint of grassy sourness. Mellows into coffee grounds and a small amount of hoppy finish. Medium texture. I was disappointed with this beer. The taste did not match the promising aroma. But I am not very experienced with this style. I would try it again in a year and see if my thoughts about it change.
