Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Aroma is a roasted scent with tones that remind me of orange liquor. Color is a dark amber with very good carbonation and a thick tight tan head. Taste is clean and malty. Starting with a medium body it goes down crisp letting it feel lighter then it is. Finish is a roasted malt flavor back with a spicy hop flavor that come out with a mild citrus (orange) and vanilla taste. In the after taste its clean with a mild bitterness. This is a very good brew and is better then I was expecting it to be.

Bottle. Pours a deep brown with a tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, caramel, and slight raisin. Taste is the same, with caramel and roasted malt up front. Raisins and spice detectable in the aftertaste. A very enjoyable brew, and one I would definitely have again.

Dark brown with small tan head. Smelled interesting, fruity, malty. Flavor had a strange spice that made it a bit sour almost? Pretty good though.

12 oz. bottle - dark brown with ruby highlights; head formed just around the edges; aromas of oranges, dates and malts; medium body becoming increasingly creamy; fruits and a little spice in the flavors; i’m really getting to like this style; easy to drink and very good

Bottle. I was a little disappointed with this one. Oh, I thought it was good but I had higher expectations. Smell was a tad weaker then should be. Appearance was nice dark brown color. Flavor was good because I like dark beer but it was a little weak. Overall, good beer but if I had more options I would probably choose another.

Every time I here a reference to ths one its usually too late to buy a six-pack so I was in luck when I ran into some over at Ledger’s Liquors, in Berkeley. Pours a small tan head with small bubbles, that disipates in only a few minutes. Nice dark brown color. To me a clear aroma of what must be chocolate malt. Taste is like a bock with dark malts in it. Perhaps a little more hoppy than a traditional bock. I like having a bock every once in a while, I’m just not 100% sold on this one now that I’ve tried it. May just have to do some additional ’studies" of teh style to be sure!!!

Pours a nice dark black, with a one-finger tan head. Aroma is odd...light, but slightly musty, kinda like a grandma’s basement. Flavor is heavy on the malt, with hints of dried fruits, smoked wood, and roasted nuts. Palate is thinner than expected, and finishes a bit too dry for my tastes.
