Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

July 2006 - Beer poured really dark and huge head which left as quickly as it came. Deep chocolate and cherry flavor with some nut. Somewhat viney tasting and sweet caramel with sour finish...not crazy about this beer for some reason.

Sampled at Anchor, San Fran - June 2007. Clear dark brown (mahogany up to light) with a thick beige head. Raisins, carmelized sugars in the nose. Flavor of dark fruits, burnt raisin, dark caramel, toffee, a hint of roast, noble hops, a light alcohol kick and some lingering bitterness. Medium bodied with lively carbonation.

Dark color with pleasing carbonation and a rocky mocha head. Aroma of caramel with notes of cardboard. Started off with a very chilled sample, yet lovely carmel flavorings still leaked out. Crisp caramel throughout the session with a burnt finish and balanced sweetness. One of the better Anchor brews.

Nice oily brown pour like molasses with a foamy/creamy light brown head. Roasted malt aroma with some sweet sugary bourbon and a touch of caramel. The taste is smoked caramel and milk chocolate with some cocoa as well.

(bottle) Pours dark brown with a tan head that settles quickly. Aroma is nice and features toasted nut, cocoa, chocolate, and tart berry (can’t tell which one though). Taste turns immediately to dark chocolate, then a slight cola flavor. This flavor then gives way to the tart berry I picked up in the aroma, and yields to a nice light roast/hop bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel. This is a pretty good sessionable beer, and has a decent amount of complexity.
