Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Dec 28, 2007 Poured from the familiar squat 12 oz bottle, this smooth, sweet elixer is an exceptional dark bock that, again, is undeserving of its 84 percentile rating on this site.
I believe it loses points because it has a low hops presense.

sweet, malty, nutty, and low carbination allow this to be an extremely quaffable beer! dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Dec 26, 2007 Bottle. Lives up to its name in appearance and aroma. Dark, without much of a head. Malty, almost molasses, aroma, without much evident hops. Thick, with a caramel, molasses flavor that almost sticks to the tongue. Too sweet. TrefwoordPunk (549), Leiden, Netherlands Dec 18, 2007 Bottle 35,5 cl. Pours almost black with a yellowish tan head and a weak aroma of smoke and caramel. Aroma is a bit sweet with lots of roasted malts and caramel. Tastes more like a Porter than a Dunkler Bock. Finish is really short, both hoppy and metallic, unfortunately I didn’t like this one that much Ron (1002), Rochester, New York, USA Dec 4, 2007 I opened this when I thought New England was finally going to lose a game last night. But they pulled it out again. I had cellared this one since spring and I think it helped mellow the beer. Pours dark black/brown with a frothy tan head. It has a sweet malty aroma and flavor. Palate is medium/light, a bit of sharp carbonation, and lightly sweet. Fairly balanced light flavor with a mild bitter hops bite at the end.. joohefner (380), Isla Vista, California, USA Nov 14, 2007 caramel color with a small tan head. nut brittle aroma: toffee and nuts with some dark fruits. creamy, smooth, and thick body. toffee malt flavor with a light floral hop note, nuts, and prunes. very well balanced and just overall great portermax55 (118), Canterbury, Connecticut, USA Nov 6, 2007 12oz. bottle.
