Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Aroma of some roasted malt, some molasses, and some coffee. I thought it smelt like a porter. Pours dark brown with a nice velvetty beige head. Flavor is some subtle molasses, chocolate, a little mocha, nice and roasty. It finishes a little sweet with some mild hints of clean hops. Very drinkable.

Rather rootbeer-y aroma. Rich, yet still light flavor with hints of molasses on the finish.

Only points off for being too West Coast. This is a great bock. Deep mahogany beautiful in the glass, light head. Taste us rich roasted malts, a bit Baltic porter-like qualities with that rich maltiness and clean finish. Again, this is more of a porter than a bock...but I like it.

Bottled sample via boutip. Medium brown in colour with ruby hints. Aromas of malt, caramel, and red berries. Malt forward in flavor, as one would expect from the style, without any let-up in dark berry (raspebrry and cherry) fruit. A bit of dark caramel near the finish, along with a bit of minerals. Thick bodied, and fairly sweet. A rich and fruity drink.

Does Anchor make a bad beer?? Poured a dark brown with good head and great lacing. Aroma was roasted malts some nutty aspect to it and chocolate. Flavor was much the same some vinous to it. Finished a bitter pine maybe. Solid beer.

Pours a clear brown color with ruby highlights and a medium diminishing tan head. Very nice aroma of red fruits (cherries, raspberries) with rich malt and caramel. The flavor is also very solid with a nice mix of cherries, raspberries, caramel and rich malt, the hops aren’t really noticeable but there’s a mild bitterness in the end. The body has a medium thickness with an oily texture and gentle carbonation. Anchor impresses me with this very enjoyable bock.
