estoves (41), Göteborg, Sweden May 7, 2007 Dark black body that glows red in light.
Thich foamy white-brown head that last pretty well. Aroma is of chocolate and breadish in the start. Gets more sour and of grapes later on.
Flavor is also bready and roasted its get more grape-sour after a while.
Palate is medium and leaves a harch aftertaste, like the one you get if you bite the seeds from a grape. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA May 7, 2007 Dark brown with a thick tan head. Heavy aroma of molasses, toasty malt, and bread. More molasses in the taste, but accompanied by cocoa and nuttiness. Very rich and heavy mouthfeel. Nice. alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA May 6, 2007 Poured a dark brown; frothy medium to large off white head. of caramel and toasted malt, with a peppering of hops. Flavor of roasted malt and nuttiness; with some sourness. Really different flavor. Some molasses and hops. New to the style, not sure what I really make of this one. ajolly2 (123), USA May 6, 2007 Brown-red color, light bodied, nice mix of chocolate malt with hops, some lingering bitterness, alcohol may or may not be in here; overall, pretty good. Silphium (2114), Haslett, Michigan, USA May 5, 2007 Deep red-brown body, thin, tight light tan head. Aroma of heavy caramels, toast, and chocolate. Dense, bready, caramely body, with chocolate and vinous dark grape notes. Leafy hops complement the heavy malts. Long, dry, somewhat bitter finish. A rich, hearty, well-made bock. mfaulke (81), clemson, South Carolina, USA May 5, 2007 Updated: May 6, 2007I was a little hard on this beer when I rated it last night. I made the mistake of having it after a barleywine so it tasted like flat coke to me at the time. After having another one today I will improve my rating a bit. The malt flavor comes through really well and it finishes smoothly. It still didn’t bowl me over but was much better than before. doublebock (196), USA Apr 30, 2007 Ruby red color, thin but frothy foam. Bready aroma. Smooth flat malty taste followed by nutty hopiness. Solidy hoppy pine like bite at the end. mctous (119), Herndon, Virginia, USA Apr 29, 2007 The aroma contains a peculiar acetic sourness along with the roasted malt. The pour and texture resemble Anchor Steam, with medium body, clear ruby color, and light but firm carbonation. Roasted malt dominates the flavor, with the sourness and hops as background. Only the sourness lingers in the palate, which is quite smooth.
