Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Deep reddish brown. Texture felt a little thin and a bit too carbonated, but it seemed to thicken up slightly as it warmed (became chewier, almost). First impression was really nice, as it seemed to be full of flavor. Toast, cola, chocolate milk and sour/dark fruit. Rather drinkable.

Bottle: Dark mahoghany/ruby colored pour with a large beige head. Nose is rich with malt and dark fruits, rather sweet. Thick body reveals tastes of dark fruits, raisons, prunes, wine, and a rich maltiness. Sweet, yet swirling in flavor. Balanced at the same time.

Pours dark black/brown with a frothy tan head. Sweet malty aroma with a light citric note. Flavor is the same as the aroma. Palate is medium/light, a bit of sharp carbonation, and lightly sweet. Fairly balanced, but very light flavor.

Bottle. Pour is a dark deep red with a quickly diminishing head that reduces to a thin ring of tan cream. Aroma is almost musty, with caramel sweetness accompanied by some smoke and moss. The flavor is very mild up front, with only the caramel malts, but the finish is quite smokey, to the point this beer could almost be considered a smoked. I detect some fruit as well. Dark fruits, like prunes. The carbonation is sharp, maybe a touch too sharp. Overall a quality brew that is easy to drink.

Bottle. Brown colour with a tan head. Odd malty aroma with nuts & caramel. A bit burned malty flavour. Spicy with some sweetness.

This is a well made beer. It’s pretty to look at - nice tan head, deepp reddish brown color, nice aroma. As fo flavor, it’s somewhat overwhelmed with hoppiness compared to what I was expecting. Well made, but not to my taste.

Bottle. Pours a deep garnet brown with a lacy orange head. Aroma of yeast, bread, fruit and caramel with a touch of herbal hops. Medium body with full carbonation. Taste of brown sugar, citrus, nuts, roasty malt and smidgeon of prune. Crisp finish with a touch of brown sugar and a twist of grapefruit.
