Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

This is a well made beer. It’s pretty to look at - nice tan head, deepp reddish brown color, nice aroma. As fo flavor, it’s somewhat overwhelmed with hoppiness compared to what I was expecting. Well made, but not to my taste.

Bottle. Pours a deep garnet brown with a lacy orange head. Aroma of yeast, bread, fruit and caramel with a touch of herbal hops. Medium body with full carbonation. Taste of brown sugar, citrus, nuts, roasty malt and smidgeon of prune. Crisp finish with a touch of brown sugar and a twist of grapefruit.

Bottled (thanks omhper!). Dark brown colour, small brown head. Aroma is almost wineous dark fruit, caramel, toffee, raisins and slight roast. Flavour is raisins, dark fruit, alcohol, caramel and a bit acidic fruits. Some roasted hints in finish and aftertaste, along with quite crispy hops. Quite full palate compared to many other beers at the same ABV level.

Dark brown, almost opaque color, nice tan head. Toasted malty, chocolaty aroma with brown sugar and caramel. Stylish "light" dark bock (although not from the style book): toasted malts, sweetish fruity (plums) notes, solid malty background, hints of cocoa and vanilla. Balanced and enjoyable bock.

i like what puzzl said. this type of beer is not my favorite. i can remember years ago a cheap bock sold at shop-rite liquor stores. that was better.anchor has some very good beers. especially the holiday edition.

WOW-JUST WHEN I WAS STARTING TO GIVE UP....bottles/corner liquor store...the bad stuff..the citrus taste is unecessary and DISTRACTING for a Bock althought this tastes like a lager and second, too expensive, barely worth 8 bucks for six beers but you could say that about 99percent of beers....the GOOD stuff: somewhere behind that wonderful malt and barley that sits really nice on palate is that old Anchor Steam orginal taste. Consistency is a wonderful thing for an American Brewer. I drank it out of the bottle which is a compliment for me. Lingering hoppy finish is a nice touch. Robust, not too dark, and a fine alcohol kick. If you like a Bock leave the Shiner’s on the shelf and grab six of these. A pretty complete beer, I was nicely surprised.
