Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

This is HORRIBLE!!! Impressive visually but you can’t drink a picture. 1/2 inch beige head sits above a rich reddish-brown brew. The lacing is perfect; dense splashes of suds cling to the glass every 1/4 inch. The aroma is an indistinguishable sweet...and the flavor is raw nuts and grain. Not good...did everyone else try a different beer than me???

Dark brown color with a medium head. Dry grainy aroma. Strong rye, malt, grain and chocolate taste. Oddly dry finish for a bock, but it’s pulled off well.

Bottle, nice sweet aromas plenty of raisin and currant, a touch of roast. Nice taste a bit of metallic hops, slight cloying sweetness. Quite nice, drinkable but still satisfying as a darker brew. Sweet cream and coffee make this a pleasure to drink.

Pours a dark brown. Very dark brown in fact, when held to the light none passes through. If the light or glass are tilted some hues of ruby show through. The head is toasted white and large, thick and rich. Aroma is strong malt and west coast hops. Taste is also very malty, milk chocolate, drying anise, sweet and tart grapes, and dark roasted coffee in the finish. The mouth feel is pleasantly accurate, frothy and delicious. I believe the alcohol level is just right. Well done!

Poured a deep dark brown color with decent head that dissipated rapidly. Aroma is sweet maltiness with notes of chocolate and dark fruits. Taste has notes of dark fruit, chocolate, and roasted nuttiness. Fairly complex. Mouthfeel is pleasant and drinkability is fairly high.

Bottle. Pours dark brown ruby, off white head. Aroma is molasses, malt, salted nuts, anise. Flavor is the same with caramel and bread and is refreshing. The aroma is heavier than the flavor but I don’t find the body to be too weak.

bottle - Pours dark amber with a big, light tan head. The aroma is of caramel malt and dark fruit. The roast caramel malt flavor has more hops than usual for this style and finishes dry. I found it a little on the watery side. It’s alright as a session brew, but be aware that it’s not as sweet and dry as you’d expect for the style and that there are certainly better bocks to be had.
