Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Flowery aroma and malty aroma. ? with halogen it’s a ruby brown color; beige head that laces. Starts sweet - but dark fruit more than malt. A bit thin. A burst of spice, but only for a moment. There is a chocolate character, and also a hint of underlying sour. Finishes with some Guiness toasted malt balanced with hop. The lasting impact is mild bitter. It is really good stuff.

Deep brown color, but not quite opaque. Large head which turns rocky and leaves fair to good lacing. Aroma of roasted nutty malts, chocolate, and dark fruit. Taste was sweet with a little plum tang. Bitter hops taste towards the end. Medium body. Somewhat sticky texture. The fruit taste seems to make it more like a doppelbock to me. But either way, it’s pretty good.

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Dark brown in color with a lasting and puffy tan head. Aroma is spicy with hints of chocolate, malts, caramel, and some licorice. Flavor is almost the same as the malts. Lots of chocolate malts, resin, licorice, and spices. Finishes smooth and sweet. A real nice bock.

Malts dominate with licorice, clove and complex spice mix and more sweetness than I care for. Still has a uniquess maltyness like several of their brews.

Bottle. Pours deep garnet with large beige head. The aroma is spicy and malty with semi-sweet chocolate and a little bit of clove and cinnamon. The flavor starts with a malty raisin sweetness, some licorice, and some tree bark. Hints of chocolate. There are very spicy hops in the finish, along with smooth alcohol. It leaves a bright aftertaste. It’s hoppy enough to know that it’s American, but is still pretty well balanced.

Beer pours an attractive garnet color with a moderately dissipating beige colored head. Aroma is malty, spicy and just a little dusty. Flavor is quite nice with a nice, rich chocolate maltiness and a very nice complex spiciness. Just a touch of wheat flavor as well. Mouthfeel is rich and creamy. I must admit to being a fan of this beer as it is my second sixer.

On tap @ Coles Buffalo NY. First had @ the brewery as a small sample. Reddish brown with nice tan khaki head. Easy drinking during Sabres-Senators brawl fest on Thursady night. Flavors of malt, chocolate & others that got lost during that unbelieveable hockey game

From Safeway in Eureka, CA this one set me back $8.99 so I was hoping for something worth the price. Poured a very rich and dark red to brown with a nice fat tan head that faded fairly quickly and left good lacing in the glass. Nose of malts, caramel, chocolate, and fruits. Mouthfeel is fairly rich and creamy, and flavors are bitter malts, caramel, and hops. Finish slightly bitter. This is a well balanced brew. Worth the price.
