yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Feb 26, 2007 Pours a clear dark red with a yellow head that quickly vanishes. The aroma is faint-- cereal, light caramel and... wood? The medium body is smooth. The flavor comes late and is bitter and herbal. Nice. JFGrind (1346), Glenside, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 25, 2007 I’ve been yearning to try Anchor Bock and finally got the chance @ the WXPN/World Cafe Live mini-brew fest. I’m happy I was able to sample this malty medium bodied bock. Caramel and roasted malts, adequate bitterness and some bready flavors. Sampled from 12 ounce bottles so I guess Anchor is increasing availability of the bock. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Feb 25, 2007 Thanks to Jacob for sharing. Slight ruby haze shines through. Nose is caramel, spiced oranges, slight clove. Flavor is caramel, bitter malt, slight burnt nuts, a hint of astringency. Tmoney99 (4655), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Feb 24, 2007 Bottle. Poured deep brown with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with fair lacing. Good complex toasted malty aroma. Medium body with soft carbonation. Moderate balanced malty sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of short duration. Drinkable brew. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA Feb 19, 2007 Toast and chocolate nose with a slight peppery, herbal note; chocolately, caramelly and a little harsh and burnt, slightly buttery; finishes piney, tart and snappy. Very good, but not as smooth as it should be. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Feb 19, 2007 12oz 7JK - Tiny dark tan h3ead over dark, dark red liquid. Small bubbles and good lace. Licorice and cloves on nose, roasted malt but not the "typical" bock flavor profile. Good. FezMonkey (268), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Feb 18, 2007 Deep copper pour with a light tan foamy diminishing head. Flavor is coffee with oddly sweet but bitter finish. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA Feb 16, 2007 From a distinctive Anchor stubby twist off 12 oz. bottle with a coded bottling date on the back label, sampled at cellar temperature in a dimpled mug.
Poured a reddish hued dark cola brown with a frothy, creamy tan head that settled into a thin sudsy lacing, small amount of ringed. laced sticking.
Aromas of chocolate, toffee, sweet berry fruity and lightly floral.
Good moderate carbonation and a crisp, dryish, creamy smooth light-medium bodied mouthfeel.
Pleasant tasting, a nice balance between malts, yeast and hops, chocolate covered caramel toffee that meshes with the sweet fruitiness, dry leafy hops that have a soft bitterness, a little spiciness as well, and a dry coffee, fruity finish.
A good spring seasonal from Anchor, one of the better American bocks.
