Commercial Description:
Keg and bottle: Filtered.
First brewed in 2005.
Ingredients: Finest barley malts, wheat malts, and fresh whole hops.
Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Bottle. Pours dark brown/black with a red tint when held up to the light. Thin to medium light brown head. Aroma of some dark fruits, leather, some smoke and plastic. Taste is caramel, dark fruits and chocolate. Finish is bitter, thin to medium body and a little chalky mouthfeel. Not familiar with this style, but I wasn’t too fond of this.

Brownish black, tan foamy head. Nose held notes of toasted caramel, dried dark fruits, and just a faint hint of smoke. Flavor was lightly tangy with more dried dark fruit, caramel, and hints of citric hops. Light bodied and slightly thin, medium carbonation, drying lightly bittersweet finish. Good brew for sessions...

12 oz. stubby, twist off bottle. Poured out a deep chocolate brown, with ruby highlights. Decent amount of a mocha colored head. Aromas are of chocolate malts, some yeast, slightly nutty also. Flavors are of subdued burnt sugar, dark malts, slight bready flavor. Medium mouthfeel, rich body to it. Decent effort of the style.

The overwhelming smell of this is pure hops, very nice aroma. The look is beautiful. Reddish brown with thick tan head. Doesn’t remind me much of a bock, but it is a good beer. Creamy palate, nutty, graham crackers in there along with butterscotch.

Pours a deep brown color with crimson tint to it. Head is foamy and light tan. Slight hop aroma but mostly nutty and spicey. Light bodied, refreshing, and lively carbonation. Flavor is toasted malt with a dry finish.

this beer pours a deep brown/almost black with a very thin tan head. The nose is very light but I am getting Like the previous rater I am getting toffee and licorice. The taste is quite sweet and effervescent. This is a well made bock. Will probably drink this again. Cheers!

Best sampled near room temperature to really appreciate this beer. It reminds me of the Christmans ale without the spices. A minute whiff of hops and then toffee and licorice. The sweetness near the end is tempered by hop bitterness.
